Question: For an MOT what are the requirements for tyers? e.g.

how many mill must they be to pass

The minimum limit is 1.6mm.

They may give you an advisory if they are below 3.0mm, as 3mm is considered by many to be the recommended lower limit.

Edit: And a spare, if present, must be legal. If it's not there, you cannot fail because of it not being there.

1.6mm, you can get a guage to check them for a couple of quid.

You should be able to find exactly what they check on the VOSA website.

Don't even need a gauge, just get a tyre tread card for free from motor World or somewhere and use that as it has a ruler.

Don't even need a tyre tread card, just use the markers on the tyre.

Yup that would tell you how far you are from the legal limit but if you wanted to know how many mm you have left as an exact figure then free card ruler *** :)

Thanks all , Well Vauxhall check the spare tyer in service anyway! all legal there.

if def used to be if you had a spare it had to be legal a work mates husband use to be a mot test and was telling me how he would say if you got a spare and its no good take it out or it will fail, if you got dice on the mirror take them off or a fail same for toys on the parcel shelf.
