Play TV for PS3 - news

I'd pay that for it, only because i don't own a PVR and to get one of that quality would cost more than £80. Yes, yes, i know i already own the expensive part, the PS3, but the software just looks leaps and bounds ahead of anything else i've seen.

Should be 50 quid. Not paying 70 or 80. Hope it can be found online for cheaper.

Why don't they release this pre summer as originally planned? (It is Spetember release now).

Surely with Euro '08 ppl buying HDTVs ps3s etc seems a market to tap into, which will be gone by September.

I'm guessing that they must be ironing out any problems. I mean there MUST be some reason why they're not releasing it before September!

Indeed, considering press etc have already viewed working versions a few months back. Glad it's a a limited EU rollout tbh, else the delays would be even longer :)

This is the reason I decided not to sell my PS3 :)

Also there is a high possibility that it will be found online cheaper if £80 is the RRP, although I can see it going over £80 if there is a supply shortage like there always is these days...

If you cant record while doing other things then it defeats the point. It has the technology to do that but sony are too lazy to code for it. Same thing with in game xmb, why not do it from the start!!!!

If they could get the box to record while playing a game then I would get one for definite.

They have, the last I heard was that they were testing it with all games and at that point no issues were found.

Sony would be fools to release this and not have gaming & recording sorted.

SCEE president David Reeves has told Eurogamer that PlayTV will launch roll out in Europe "from September to December" starting with a UK date of 10th September.

Reeves also confirmed that the device - a digital video recorder add-on for PS3 - will allow users to record TV at the same time as playing games.

"Yep, it's going to be 10th September that PlayTV comes out," he told us in an interview set to be published whenever my fingers start working again.

Asked if Sony had overcome technical hurdles and definitely planned to let you record TV at the same time as playing games, he said: "We do, yep."

"It was very difficult for some of the tech guys but we had to include it in the firmware upgrade, 2.41, but it's done now," he said, so in theory if your PS3 is up to date you're all set for the 10th September launch.

Reeves announced at PlayStation Day in May that PlayTV would cost EUR 99 when it launched in September, but was unable to nail down a date.

He also had some good news for gamers elsewhere in the PAL markets. "We've got Australia and New Zealand also lined up for it in January or February, because on their digital terrestrial they haven't actually set the standards yet.

hrmm so what does it do that my sky+ box cant do?

Not break down as much? Oh and you dont have to pay a monthly fee for it*, all content is drm free so you can take it off your PS3 and sick it on a DVD or save to your PC etc etc. Probably quieter than my old sky+ box was a noisey thing that kept whiring and clicking all night. :)

* Yes i do know that the £10 a month thing has gone but you still have to pay for sky to use the thing.
