Following on from my thread here where I was advised to upgrade my HU rather than my speakers, I've found this Pioneer that I quite like the look of.

It's last year's model, hence I can pick it up for around the £60 mark, anyone in a position to comment on whether or not it would be a decent upgrade to my standard Scenic unit? Thanks.

Looks like a good unit - 4x50w, so good output, but pretty much anything would be better than the standard Scenic unit! I have a 1999(V) Mk2 Scenic, and am replacing the standard unit with a Pioneer DEH-P7000UB, and people have said that the Pioneer units produce a good sound even with standard speakers.

Make sure you get the right fitting kit if you want to utilise the stalk controls on the steering wheel though - Halfrauds seem to sell two, and I think that we need the one with the 'remote display', but the website seems to contradict me. I am going into the store this weekend to see if I can get the right unit, so will report back my findings!

I've been looking at the 5000, 6000, and 7000 too, but as nice as they all look, I probably won't use half the extra features they've got over the 2900, so thought I'd try and save a little money by buying an older model, and hope it's got mostly similar insides to its bigger brothers, just trying to confirm that in this thread.

Not too fussed about the stalk controls, happy to reach across and turn the volume up manually if needs be, but might invest in a fitting kit at a later date, thanks for pointing out the fact that there's two though, typical!

Probably a slight change of plan if anyone's interested! :p

Think I'm gonna go for the Pioneer DEH-5000UB, purely for the fact that I can change the colours to better suit my car.

Anyone got one that can comment on how good it is? If not, I'll probably buy it anyway, but it's worth asking anyway!

I've got the DEH-3900MP and it's a pretty decent HU - has definitely improved sound quality. :)

Thanks for the reply. :)

I'm assuming that most of the lower end of the Pioneer market all employ the same amplifier and thus will sound similar to each other anyway, so whichever sub £200 model I get the internals will be similar, just the more expensive ones will have more features?
