Tagan TG800-BZ

I want lights damnit! Like a funfair in a pc! Also ive read a few topics on the naffness of hiper PSU's... And im sure I remember reading some posts about tagan being decent (though searching for this psu doesnt bring up much relevant stuff.

I did find a review after posting here, on some site called bjorn3d which said the psu was excellent except for a short power lead meaning it might have problems connecting it to the motherboard..

Hi

I have this PSU and before that a Tagan 530w modular.

It's a decent enough PSU (though I suspect so are most from the leading makes). Good selection of leads, 6 x +12v rails (or one with 64A). The connectors are a better / more solid fit that the ones on my previous Tagan (IE. these screw in). Also nice and quiet (well I can't hear it even with my ear stuck right next to it). And there is of course the set of "fairy lights" at the back of it!

I only upgraded from my previous PSU as I was doing a re-build anyway and thought the extra power may well come in handy when the Graphics card market (price wise) settles down and I get a new card (280GTX fancied at the moment).

O'yes... and I rather like the light show!

Well I cant be bothered with putting any cathodes or led's in the case.. well at least not yet. So a few lights on the psu couldnt hurt :)

I am assuming 800w is plenty for x48 mobo, q9450/9550, 2x 4870?

More than enough. However the Tagan doesn't have the best build quality and in the review i have seen it uses cheap caps.

Must have read a different review to me!

http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1187&pageID=4096

In conclusion they say:
"To say we are very impressed with the ABS-Tagan TG800-U88 BZ 800 Watt power supply would be a vast understatement! "

A comment I've seen mirrored in a couple of other reviews.

or how about:

http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/power/Tagan/BZ800/Page3.asp

And one of their final comments:

" The Tagan BZ 800 Watt power supply is the completed package. This power supply backs good looks with solid performance and a remarkable set of accessories. I was impressed with the stability in both the standard build and with all of my extra parts thrown in".
and also:
"To the less technical user, a look inside reveals a lot about the component quality and the attention to detail given to the construction. The BZ800 scores well in both cases"

Mind you I too seem to remember reading a review that mentioned the Capacitors, though I also seem to remember that they too gave it the "thumbs up".

Not saying it's "the only" PSU to consider, but slighting it by saying an off the cuff remark like "doesn't have the best build quality " is a little unfair to Tagan.

Only my opinion of course. and everyone else is quite entitled to theirs.

PS. Here is the review that mentions the capacitors

Though overall they seemed to like it and awarded it one of their "Editors Silver Awards".
These folks produce some of the best and most detailed hardware reviews and push their kit a lot harder than most. In fact, a number of the PSU's they have put through the same rigorous testing (and no one in real life would put a PSU through anything like this!) have gone "pop". In fact this article swung the sale for me.

Nice and shiny and sparkley :p

800w should be ok in most systems but is it worth £117 because it lights up ??

Not because of lights.... it's Tagan for gods sake... One of the best PSUs you can have, the only other 2 on the same level I would say is enermax and seasonic, they're any cheaper as well.

For less prices I would go either with Thermaltake or Corsair.
Thermaltake would be best buy price/performance imo but they're all bought out already so u will have to wait for it to come on stock ;-).

Funny how these new Tagans have the same modular connectors on the unit as my Hyper 580 type R minus the lights and the new Type r II is now none modular apart from the power cord, but the Tagan is the next one on my list as those connectors are so secure.
