The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I was thinking of giving EVE another go, I last logged on last year for a 14 day trial and was wondering how long my account will stay active for and where is the best place to buy time cards from.

Thanks, managed to find my account details and login. Just looked at the time codes and it looks like it works out cheaper to buy a 60 day card than it does for a subscription. Card is roughly £17 for 2 months and a sub is roughly £15 a month.

surely they either warp away, or you get popped from the gate guns?

I mean't for FW. I've never done it til the other night; A small gang of us sat above the stations and gates and were picking off the stragglers from the roaming gangs. You clearly need a tackler at the gate but they are just used as bait and kitted up to tank the damage. With the improved cloak you can then uncloak when the target it engaging the bait and fire away.

Most targets that are at the gates and engaging will be suited to close range damage. With your manticore 50-60km away you can't take the damage as they can't hit you :).

I took it out earlier, only bagged an AF but I'm having a hoot with the hilariously long range warp disruptor 2 :D I don't think he had any idea what was going on, he kept realigning and trying to warp...

Using a fairly poor rig as it is, I'm still working on my assorted recon-ey skills so I'm starved for CPU and I burn cap like there's no tomorrow, but it's still quite funny.

Right, at 13m SP I really should be able to fly a BS, so was wondering which I should train for. Was thinking either Amarr, Gallente or Minmatar as they would take advantage of my Gunnery skills, currently I'm sorta Minmatar spec flying the Cruiser classes, but I've heard that Minmatar BS's just aren't all that great. So any opinions on which to train for.

I guess I could easily train for a Raven also, but I'm looking for a more PvP oriented choice as I have an alt, and access to an account to make ISK on anyway.

I'd go for gallente BS. In fact I did go for gallente BS, after I had minmatar BS. Range and tracking for fleet setups on gallente stuff is good, but pulse laser boats might be a bit better for small gangs because of the extra range compared to blasters. It depends what you will mainly be doing :)

Well I'd only really want to fly a BS for big fleet stuff just now, as I much prefer a Rapier for small gang work.

I was leaning towards Gallente as the Mega just looks so awesome :P But then again my alt is speccing that way (Domi though), and it would mean no lasors!

Mega is great for fleet work and laying out dps. Domi is great for being so damn versatile - ratting, neuting, remote rep, gank, tank, whatever. Hype is, er, big.

Minnie BS pretty cool too though, although I've never flown them much.

The phoon is a monster of a BS but you really need the skills to fly it. I think all of the BS's are balanced, just got for what you fancie. I fly gallente on one chanracter and caldari and mimitar on the other, though mainly caldari, i do love the scorp.

The Pilgrim is my main ship, I absolutely love it, well worth training up the necessary skills. Never been able to do well in Amarr battleships though, even though I have a ton of skills put into them. I think I just suck at BS combat, I hate the lack of mobility.

I left eve over a year ago, this was a few months before the new battleships and when warp core stabs where common on all ships

The game got ****** with almost no pvp (it was getting worse and worse for 12months before), low sec was dead, 0.0 was dead, high sec was dead. You could not pvp alone or in small gangs for love nor isk.

I ended up having to steal HAC containers in high sec in my thorax set up to kill hacks (1600mm plate, 600DPS, no reps, beat them down). Fun for a while and good isk when you crap on the faction fitted HACs. (Took down a deimos with over 1.5 Bil of faction gear in my thorax once. was a nice day!)

the amount of time spent per kill was ridicules (ie in 4 hours you might get 2-3 kills looking hard, wow what fun, 3h for 3m of pvp).

When I left I had 45m skillpoints and was probably one of the top 100 in the game. I sold the character for 15B isk, which was a large sum for the time.

eve is crap for the following reasons. in no particular order

you join the game with 1m skillpoints and verse players with 50m skillpoints and perhaps the average pvp SP is 25-30m now? people say it dont matter but it sure does, i would know!

pod kill prices. why do higher SP players pay 15m per pod kill? it meant I was never in a t1 frig or a t1 gear just because the pod costs so much

t2 : so many problems, the major one being market manipulation and a few ultra rich individuals/corps

no pvp. Everyone plus dog is scared in eve, no one fights unless they outnumber you 4 to 1.

no incentives for low sec living.

lots and lots and lots of problems

imo, 80-90% of people who "play" eve are just logging on to chat with friends 80-90% of the time. nothing else

You had a 45mil sp and sold for just over 15b, i think you got duped even if this was a year ago

Besides a year ago 0 was not dead at all and a year ago the incentives for low sec living were riches to alliance standards. The deeper u went into 0 the more roaming gangs you would have found closer to the alliance sovereignty.

But yeah glorified chat is what could be said about most mmos tbh.

And all this was happening a year ago right? I think you must have been in some parallel universe or something mate.

And if you don't even know what the games like now how can you go about saying stuff about it?

Why don't you log in and check out some invention for your T2 gear eh? or do you not know what that is? how about you grow a pair and get some decent PVP on the go eh? there is LOADS about, and if you can't find it thats your own problem.

Also, "I would know" about the skillpoint disparity thing... No you wouldn't, you admit yourself that you were a high SP player not a low one. I've fairly recently been a low SP player, and it doesn't actually matter Of course a 5m toon is outclassed by a 50 mil toon, but not to the extent that you can't play the game succesfully, unless you try to solo everything. A new toon doesn't need industrial skills, they can join a corp with an indy corpmate. They don't need to be able to drive a carrier, or a cov ops, or a command ship- so much PVP is done with mods I could have used after about a week. And of course, gang combat is the norm in eve.

I honestly reckon the kill model in eve is its most succesful point- you can specialise or generalise and you're not doomed to grind. Plus, the expensive skills are well pitched- as a midrange-skilled player I could be in a carrier or dread by now easily, but instead I've branched out into coverts and invested SP in industry. There's always a choice, always something else to learn.

And 15 million per clone? It's peanuts. If I lose a couple of clones plus the basic implants I put in pvp clones, I just go and do missions for an hour or so till they're paid for.
