I know the above is generally frowned upon but my last job (as a waiter) has ended until September at the earliest excluding the odd shift here and there.

While I'm looking for another job I can apply for JSA even though I've applied to university can't I?

Hopefully I won't be claiming it for too long. Just enough to tide me over for a while.

Cheers

I'm going into my first year, I haven't actually started yet. I've been accepted to a course so does that mean I can?

This is a bit of a grey area I think, I would assume that they would let you sign on anyway - after all, even if a person is going to university sometime in the future, he can still find employment until then, so the JSA would be usable too, in absence of any job opportunities. You should look on www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk though just in case.

Go and ask!

Mate, don't feel embarassed about it or anything. The whole point of the system is that if you fall on hard times it helps you until you're sorted.

It doesn't make you a benefits fraud or scum of the earth. Its one of the points of paying taxes!

As long as you're genuinely looking for a job in the meantime we won't organize a lynch mob to come and kill you for taking our taxes.

Don't worry KNiVES I geuninely will be looking for a job in the mean time. At the very worst it'll only be until September when my other job starts back up. Hopefully it won't be that long though.

I thought that the dole first takes money that you have put in first and then public taxes :p my brother had dole until september last year and then he wasnt sure what was going to happen.
