Well... Ive replaced my P35 motherboard for an Asus P5E (X38). Ive got an OCZ 700w PSU, and now I want to go and spend more money! The options are....

1) Sell my 4850 (for around £100) and get a BFG GTX 260 on Special this Week. Built in PhysX will boost this card even further

2) Sell my 4850 and get buy a HD4870, also on Special offer. Pocket £60 to spend on cheap booze and cheap girls!

3) Buy another 4850 and go crossfire. Bit worried that multi-gpu is always hit n miss depending on game/driver support, but it seems crossfire scales really well.

Need to know by tomorrow!!! :)

Option 4 is not an option.... like many of us, once we have that burning desire to spend, we just HAVE to spend! Number 2.... Im tempted!!! ;) I feel the missus wouldnt be too happy unless i spend the saved money on her!

Game on a 22" monitor at 1680x1050, BUT with firiends round I may occasionally hook it up to the LCD TV and game at 1080p (I think thats 1920x1200)

Slighty out of budget, but looking at it, a 4870 is not that expensive. Im not sure a 4870+4850 is any better than 4850+4850

Option 3 for me will give you the biggest boost thats what i would do if i wanted a nice upgrade getting a 4870 and gtx260 won't give you anywhere near the performance of the crossfire 4850's.

If you're that desperate to spend yr cash then i would get the 4870. But as others have said your pc is already pretty damn good and 130 quid buys a lot of Bourbon!

the PhysX is only much use if you play 3D mark Vantage all day.

With your P35 mobo, if you really crave more speed i would wait for the 4870X2 and sell your HD4850 card to put towards it.

*EDIT* Mis read - thought you had a P35 mobo, as you have the X38 i would go for option 3, i have and it flies (except crysis)

So far, it seems that the 4850+4850 solution is winning the race. And to be honest, this gives me the best bang for the bucks scenario by a fair way. I do understand that this option is limiting my upgrade path in the future though.

Youv'e got an X38 board - not to use it for crossfire would be a sin :)
