which is full of dust any tips on cleaning it?? i don't really fancy taking it off the board, and i don't like the idea of sticking a hoover attachment into in either...

also any general tips on cleaning the inside would be appreciated....

n.b. i've got some filters in the post to attach and have now quit/in the process of quitting smoking so shouldbnt be such an issue in the future

cheers!!

Just blow the Zalman with compressed air. Are you using an aerosol?
The best way is a commercial compressor and air gun, if you can get access to one!

The filters should help you, but if you smoke you're probably looking at weekly/fortnightly cleaning to keep the buildup at bay.

Consider getting a decent air purifier for your room. This may sound a but girly but they do a great job in keeping the air that your PC is sucking in much cleaner.

I've seen some PCs after 3 months and they're in an awful state, I had mine for 8 months and it still looked like new thanks to regular cleanouts.

You could also help by not smoking. ;)

P.S. Welcome to OcUK Forums :)

compressed air between the fins? get ready for a mess though!

Honestly, taking it off and hoovering it is the easiest option. I did that with 18 months of dust in my freezer 64 and that has some kind of dust filter at the front - pointless if it isn't positive air pressure.

quit smoking - you're killing your PC ! ;)

hey cheers. for your quick replies :)

i only smoke when i sit and get drunk and play COD4 :) now.....

i saw a car jump starter on the ****** website which doubles as a compressor for car tyres for £20....

it has about 200psi pressure.....you guys think that'd be sufficent??

why would you smoke inside? why?

Probably cos it's his house and he doesn't really want to go outside every time he wants a smoke. :p

I don't smoke, but my partner does but she goes outside - I couldn't tolerate it in the house, neither could she incidentally.

actually...i don't really like the smell of other people smoking in my house, but i can stand my own....bit like farts i guess

so, other then quit smoking....best way to clean is with the compressed air......what are your opinions on using a hoover also?? as in sticking it in the case and sucking some of the dust out??

The hoover will remove surface dust but wont touch anything trapped between fins. In absence of a compressor, take the cooler out and use an anti-static cleaning brush.

That car compressor isn;t likely to be suitable.

The rate at which it'll expel air won't be high enough.

You're best off simply buying a can of compressed air.

I have been recently informed to try cleaning my case with a paintbrush and after trying its a good way to clear all the surface dust off. Its good for fans, heatsinks, and all other components.

Its just a case of then getting it out of the case - would you guys recommend using a hoover? People I've spoke to before said it was bad and some say its ok.

What you think?
