Well I took your (most of you) advice and bought a Panasonic TH42PX80

I'm quite impressed at the moment and it only cost £599 + £56 for 5 years guarantee.

My living room is gutted at the moment and the wife has made me remove 4 speakers from the walls and now I need a wife friendly sound system.
The Yamaha YPS systems look perfect - anybody got one?

How do you find it?

I have one of these reserved, supposed to be picking it up on Monday.

How do you find it?

I just walk in the living room and its there :)

Seriously, I turned it on and immediately it started to setup on its own.
It then asked me for a password and my address in case it gets nicked.
I searched round for something good and 2001 : A Space Oddysey was on which looked pretty damn impressive.

Congratulations, the panny's are a good quality t.v. for the money. I have had my 50PX70B for a couple of months and today i got my first HD-DVD which i will watch tonight (Batman Begins and it only cost about £4).

JUST BE WARNED - KEEP THE CONTRAST AND BRIGHTNESS SETTINGS QUITE LOW FOR A FEW MONTHS (200 HOURS OF USE) AND USE THE CINEMA MODE THIS WILL LESSEN THE CHANCES OF GETTING SCREEN BURN OR IMAGE RETENTION.

...and don't ever use the Dynamic mode....should be renamed 'Shop Demo' mode.

You're unlikely ever to get screen burn in any more. You will get image retention but it doesn't last very long and you won't actually notice it on anything byt a black screen.

I have a 37PX70.

Just be careful. Screen burn now days on decent plasma's (like the px80) shouldn't occur unless you really try! However temporary image rentention isn't uncommon whilst the screen is being run in. Just make sure you watch a variety of 'images' so tv channel logos, the black strips on films and game menus don't get retained.

As kingy said keeping the contrast and brightness lowish helps as well.

Dynamic mode can look ok when being used with a console but even then the brightness needs taking down a bit.

No it doesn't, it burns your retinas. Looks absolutely horrible on any tv

Congrats on the tv dmpoole. Forget a wife friendly sound system, be an alpha make and get a full 5.1 system and av receiver to power them. Much better :D:D

Theres no chance.
You wouldn't believe the amount of cables I have in the house.
My internet is all cabled into every room.
From one end of the living room to the other I have at least 12 cables that run under the floorboards and come up by my TV at one end and PC at the other.
I have cables that run around the side of the house to my motorised satellite system.
My TV area has a total of 14 plugs and my PC area has a total of 26 plugs.
I have a 2,800 watt PA system that takes up a cubby hole and I have musical instruments & amplifiers scattered all over the place.
No way will she let me put more speakers up.
The Yamaha YSP looks perfect and to be honest I'm not an audiophile.

When you have that many, what's a small handful more? :p

I have a ridiculous number of plugs, cables, monitors and electronic devices in general so I'll probably die of electromagnetic radiation very soon, but at least I'll know each cable served a purpose, even if only once!

It looked ok to me over vga... Probably not so great over hdmi.

A few pics of mine showing planet earth at 1080p

I love your set up there. But isn't your PS3 going to die a slow and very hot death where it is? I thought the fan was on the right side meaning its right up against the wall there.

Also, is that the PZ80 you have if you're at 1080p? I thought the PX80 was 720p?

Theres plenty of room for the ps3 too breath just looks closed in cos of the angle of the pic.

It is a px80 they can accept a 1080p signal and display it very well, even though its native res is really 1024x768.

A alpha male wouldn't buy a lowly av amp. They'll buy 7 of these..

I could pull my two PA stacks into the living room -
