So I’ve been jobless for about a month now. I've been trying everything but so far received 5 rejections. It's okay though, as I’ll just keep applying and applying until I get a job.

I have savings, and was using a portion of my savings to help me go through the month until I get a job. The problem is, the portion as I say is running dangerously low and I don't want to take another chunk out of my savings just to support me.

I have a job interview on Thursday. Fingers crossed that this one goes well.

If it doesn't, I’m pretty much guaranteed a job at my local McDonalds. It might not be great, but damn it it's a job. :o

Just get a job stacking shelves or warehouse work for now. I did that for 6 months (cash and carry) before getting into a 'proper' job.

Your attitude is spot on, you'll get a job no bother. Just anything to keep you going will be fine while at the same time look for a job you actually want to do. All the best.

Personally I'd go on the dole and do voluntary work, or go for an apprenticeship

Im not sure what his savings were for, but if it was something in particular I think you should have done this as a temp measure, as you may need that money for something else.

but its good to see you are making the effort, just dont get into a routine with the next temp job you get.

I imagine this would be poor choice for the OP if he is already exhausting his savings. Unless he has almost zero outgoings or lives at home I don't see how he'd be able to survive on the dole.

Yep, I'm sure he can earn far more even at Mcdonalds than on the dole, that's regardless of the fact that I'm sure it will be far better on his CV than a spell on the dole.

Over here the dole is plenty enough for rent and food so long as you're not expecting to go out every night. I've been on it for a couple of months now. The job situation is absolutely hopeless here. Any cheap job is given to foreigners because they don't complain about illegal hours/pay and any decent job is looking for 2-3 years min experience.

The thing that really kicked me in the nuts was that I got a job after going through a month long selection process, beating out two internal people that I was told were definitely going to get it ahead of me and then after all that, after knowing I had the job and was just waiting on final confirmation their VP in the US decided it was cheaper to hire two Indians to do the job instead of me.

So now I've decided the only thing to do is to go back and get a decent honours degree (one extra year) in september. If I stay on the dole until I go back to college then I get automatic grant and rent allowance for the year. If I get a crappy job (assuming I could even) then I'd have to go through a few month long decision as to whether I get the grant or not which I probably won't because my dad gets good pay though he's retiring in september and moving to England so they can't afford to pay for my rent which they've told me.

So basically if I could get a crappy job it would be worse for me as I wouldn't get the grant and part time work on evenings and weekends wouldn't be enough for me to pay the rent (€350 a month min in Galway) and food.

I consider the dole as a sort of investment on the governments half. When I get a decent job up close to 30K a year (with any luck) just one years tax will pay for the dole I'll have gotten.

I know a lot of people on these forums hate the idea of the dole but this is exactly what it's here for, to help you get through the starter years before you get a decent paying professional job.

Good luck with all that, I had the pains of that then got a crappy call centre job, so i'm now in your position with a really bad income, definitely looking for a move asap!

Best of luck to you :)

whats your skill? IT?

should have applied for jobseekers so that you had someone else helping you find a job, and so that you didnt have to eat into your savings, after all when you have a job you're going to be paying the tax which jobseekers get, so why not take advantage of it yourself?

Im currently struggling to find a half decent job to temp in before i join navy so im on jobseekers, the only real employers in my town are call centres and mcdonalds, then barwork, i refuse to do barwork, i cant go to a call centre as Ill be gone before iv been there long enough and will have to pay a portion of training costs and mcdonalds would never have me back :D

i cant even get a job at mcdonalds lol . theres one round the corner and working there would be ideal while im at uni in all honesty.
