Hi

Off to Nottingham Trent in Norton Court which is in Radford, Nottingham. Everywhere I go I just read about how rough and bad it is, is it really as bad as everyone makes out?

Hi mate. I've been at trent uni for 3 years now.. 4th year soon.

Not to put you off.. but Radford is a horrible place. It's one of the worst places in Nottingham I've been to. I really would consider somewhere else if you can. Do you have any other options?

Well I wanted to get into Gill Street, but thats full up. Thinking of maybe ringing up on results day and seeing if theres any spaces opened.

Just wondering why is radford so bad?

Hard to say really, but it's full of ethnic minority's and mostly locals.. so not many students. It's just one of the poorer areas and with that comes crime, rough people etc.

My mate lived there in 1st year and to be honest I didn't feel particularly safe walking through there... would definitely not walk through there at night. There was (probably still is), a gun shop opposite his halls as well which i think summed the area up mate.

Sounds great that, lol. You might not know, but do you know if accommodation generally opens up in Gill Street, because I hear its the most popular by far?

Just had a look where it is, looks like it's in the middle of the arboretum, which is right next to town. That's a much better area and is where i'm living for 4th year. Not to sure whether it's the most popular, but it's in a great spot right near the SU as well. I guess it depends on which campus you're studying on as well?

Good Areas:

- Arboretum
- West Bridgford
- Clifton CAMPUS (not the area.. it's rough)
- The Park

Bad Areas:

- Radford
- St Anns (horrible.)
- Meadows

Anywhere located near to town is alright.. it's a couple of the outskirts which aren't great.

It's not the greatest area in the world but it's far from the worse place you could go in Nottingham :)

so what do you consider the worst areas in nottingham?

i lived in snapewood bulwell for the first 19 years of my life and acording to some searchs on the net its now considering a no go area at night

it wasnt really that rough when i lived there and i knew all the rough people in snapewood since beeing a toddler, non of them were the type who would randomly mug or beat someone up for the hell of it

the meadows ,st annes , broxtowe , radford and bestwood were probably considered the worst areas.

I will be on the city campus in the business building, have no idea where that is. Urgh... really regretting choosing Norton Court now.

It's not as bad as people make out, but it's not exactly a great place. It's similar to St Annes really, around the same level of roughness. There's usually quite a few chavs/dealers around.

It is next to the arb though, and that's an awesome place :D

so what do you consider the worst areas in nottingham?

I'd say St Annes, Meadows, Radford, Sneinton, I'm not sure about Broxtowe as I've never been there, and I've only been to Bestwood a few times so I'm not sure about that. Sherwood would be coming up in that list, and possibly Daybrook depending on where abouts you are, but it's usually not that bad.

Pretty much the areas you've just said :p

To be fair though I can't really comment on student accommodation anywhere in the area as I've never looked to live in student digs. My views are based on the quality of the regular housing market in the area and on working. There are plenty of areas I'll happily leave my van unlocked (for ease of access when I'm toing and froing all day) but none of them are really populated by many students.

Radford has plenty of students in it, you'll be fine as long as you stay sensible like not going out on your own and wandering the streets in the middle of the night.

This is what im worried about, when im coming from a night out, I generally walk instead of get a taxi.

- Clifton CAMPUS (not the area.. it's rough)

Having lived in Clifton my whole life, I thoroughly disagree. Clifton is a very large place, with a lot of people. A lot of those people are also short of a bob or two, but I would certainly say that it's not rough. Certainly not near the University campus itself. All my uni mates much preferred Clifton to the other available places to live (WB was popular too). Quite a few actually now live in Clifton.

put it this way, whenever i drive through it i always lock my doors :D but saying that whenever i have driven through it i've never seen any bother. i wouldn't live there by choice though.
