With about £800 maybe more to spend, any recommendations?

AVForums have suggested these;

Sony KDL40W4000U
Samsung LE40A656

See there is also a panasonic on here that people seem to like as well.

Sony are overpriced, but Samsungs are faulty. So I'd get the Sony. However any reason why you're not considering a plasma?

I dunno I havent gone against it thats just what people have said.

btw ive had a samsung for 2yrs and never had an issue so :P

WT...

Samsung's are faulty.....?

Sony's are expensive because they are just excellent - you'll be hard pushed to match the image quality those things give.
As for Samsung's "being faulty" - what rubbish.

Save bumping my own thread LCD really better than Plasma for gaming? Or will it make little difference?

That is somewhat open to debate. That debate usually revolves around the fact that most plasmas are not as high resolution which does make a difference for games. However the TH42PZ80 is full 1080p so this argument is pretty much out. Plasmas offer better blacks and faster (non-existent) response time. Note that plasma still does suffer from screen-burn, though it is usually temporary it is still annoying, though is often avoidable.

Lets put it this way, I have a Sony KDL-40V3000 and got it for £650. Although it is an awesome TV and I love it, had the TH42PZ80 been <£750 when I bought it (It was £850 then) there would have been no competition, the Panny would have been mine. I just depends what is available at the right price at the right time though and at the time I got mine the Sony offered the best value for money for what I was after. Right now the TH42PZ80 is probably the best for your money.

How long does it take for an image to get burnt on the screen? Cos I rarely game on the tv for periods more than 2hrs

That depends on a number of factors

a) Contrast setting
b) Dynamic contrast enabled?
c) Length of time image has been static
d) Intensity of logos
e) Robustness of the plasma panel

^^ What he said, just got a plasma 42" panny and its awesome!

Don't mean to hijack the thread but i'm looking at 42" plasma's.

The 2 brands i'm looking at are pioneer and panasonic. The panny's are more reasonable in terms of price. I hear the pioneer's are the dog's ******* but are priced as such.:p

Was looking at panny's TH-42PZ81B/80B/85B. Can't really see any difference in the models.

I believe that panny make the pioneer panels for them anyway...
The TH42PZ81B has built in freesat/freeview tuner,
the 80B & 85B do not have built in freeview/sat tuners.
80B & 85B I cant tell the difference between.

Awesome :D

Gonna have to just choose based on looks or maybe blindly throw a dart :p

TV Tuner ain't important to me as I don't watch broadcast TV :)
