MotoGP Laguna Seca 08 - No Spoilers in OP -

Aye.

BBC2 or Eurosport?

I was on Eurosport with the odd flick at the ad breaks.

Eurosport for me as well. The best motorsport commentary bar none. That has to be one of the best motorbike races of all time. It's repeated tonight on Eurosport at 19.30. for those interested. I shall be recording it onto DVD because as the commentator said "this ones a keeper".

Races like this confirms him as the GOAT.

Get rid of all electronic aids and lets watch the doctor at work!

watch the bits with the telemetry being displayed, stoner is on/off the throttle and brakes like a switch and letting the electronics do it's stuff. Rossi is the opposite, feathering the throttle as needed.

Was a damn good race to watch and the 2nd time Michelin have messed things up in the US!

That was really interesting, although, not only was he on and off the throttle like a switch, he was putting 100% throttle on behind Rossi.. :o

The Duke is a serious bit of kit considering it can be ridden like that..

Brilliant race! best one for a looong time in MotoGP

Thats what racing usually is though, on or off :p but Rossi is the master, Stoner is a bloody great rider though, just look at this team mate, same bike same opportunity and is usually last when Stoner is first or top 3, the electronics are there but they dont stop you highsiding as we saw :p

Another point very evident in the early parts were the way Stoner was taking a shallower line into the corners. Particularly in T3 (the first right-hander) he would come in shallow and squirt the power to turn the bike on exit.

Toby and Julian repeatedly discussed the state of the right-hand side of Rossi's rear tyre... would have been nice to put it in perspective by seeing Stoner's - assuming they were using the same.

so true
most of the riders at the front in motoGP wouldn't be at the front without there aids and that includes stoner

If they did junk all the rider aids, i'd buy shares in the company who provide Ducati with the carbon fibre for the fairings, since stoner would probably destroy a bike or 2 every race weekend ;)

He wasnt happy with Rossi in Parc ferme(sp), wouldnt shake hands.

I just got back from racing at Brands Hatch last night and turned on the telly to see the BBC showing this race. Despite being shattered and wanting to go sleep for a week the battle between those two kept me hooked right til the end!

To think that Stoner raced at the same club I do only a few short years ago! If I remember correctly Bradley Smith and Chaz Davies also came up through the MRO Superteen class. If you can, check out this years Superteen races as there are a few at the front that are showing the same drive and talent as Stoner et al did when they were with us. Watching them bash fairings coming down Paddock was breathtaking to say the least.

I would love to see Stoner on the early 990's or even the 500's. Didnt he crash most of his first season on the 990's? then suddenly he's unstoppable.

Yep, spent most of his first season in MotoGp destroying his honda, usually in a pretty spectacular style.

Dont think any of the current MotoGp riders bar Rossi, capirosi and a couple of the Japanese ones could ride a 500 2-stroke.
Hayden probably could since he likes to get the back spinning.

Great race. Remember seeing stoner in the 125s at Knockhill a couple of years ago before he went to Motogp and he was miles ahead of the field.

Stoner could only pass Rossi on the main straight using the power of the Ducati whereas Rossi could ride around him out brake him etc.

Can't wait for the next race.

As is so often with the moto gp my heart was beating with the tension and when stoner came off on the gravel I couldnt believe my eyes!!!

An amazing race and a good result for lots of other people than rossi, toseland getting himself some decent points after the embarassment of the UK leg!
