ATI 48xx IQ & AA Article

I like how in the Crysis test they completely fail to realize Crysis uses its own edge-AA post-process when the actual AA option is set to zero hence the bluriness.

If Crysis isn't using AA, it'll use the command r_useedgeaa=1. With any form of AA on, it'll do multisample AA instead, which looks worse up until 8xAA.

Interesting article for all its flaws. So, 4 x AA is 'free' on the 4870 and 8 x AA looks to be 'free' on the 4870X2.

I know that nobody uses zoom on their games, but I think for exercises like this it is important, otherwise they'd forever have to be saying "Look at the wire, up there, on the right, right by the mutant soldier, no not that one, the one eating some intestines" rather than just showing an image.

It is a broad assumption but probably reasonably accurate to say if it is better on the cropped zoom, it is better all over.

Why don't they show fullscreen images to compare with? you don't play your games zoomed in at 500%.

...Even though they aint zoomed in at all ... they are just cropped images of a part of the screen. And they have 200% zoomed images right next to them.

Only does that if the Shader setting is on Very High, otherwise it doesn't come on, unless you force it using commands. EdgeAA won't activate if normal AA is on in the options.

If you apply the AA with the control panel or nHancer or something, you can disable EdgeAA by using the command: r_UseEdgeAA = 0, in a system.cfg.
