The general wisdom so far seems to indicate that we're getting the shaft. Hopefully that's not the case and everything might be rosy once "real" information gets out there....

I read somewhere that it was the 3rd of September for public release - can't remember where though, sorry.

I'm a VMC user - what is this supposed to do?

I currently run VMC with a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-TD-Stick. I use my laptop as a desktop and a tv (its plugged into a 24" monitor), so its a part-time media center.

I did used to have a standalone media center pc, but nothing worked. But now everything seems to work great including TV (which was awful when I tried before) - that might be something to do with the fact that I invested money on a decent tuner this time.

As you can probably guess, i don't really do recording and i run my dual tuner stick in diversity mode (uses both tuners to tune 1 channel), so the new features will probably be useless to me, although I would like the interactive stuff.

Any change to the UI?

Will look forward to this - thanks for the info.

Source?

I seriously doubt that they would prevent people that purchased Vista only instead of a whole new PC from accessing
all features of Media Centre.

Partially based on the KB article posted by MS, which indicate that "Not all computers that are shipped by hardware vendors in the retail channel have the Windows Media Center TV Pack installed.", which a few sites are taking to mean OEM only.

Saying that though, I think we'll have to "officially" wait until CEDIA in September for any official announcements, but I'll go for a retraction and back to "I hope this gets released" instead of saying what I said earlier.... damn custard proof!

Have a look at Chris Lanier's blog for some more info, but as he says, the behaviour of the beta testers (who, let's not forget, are under NDA) has likely PO'd Microsoft.... suppose we can look forward to a nice closed beta next time and getting stiffed again!

Still, what's in the TV Pack looks pretty damn useful.

Agreed. Not trying to call you out, just hoping that all users get equal treatment, as Media Centre is OK but could be excellent :).

NP.

Was watching some of it unfold across blogs and forums over the weekend and today and because of the NDAs and the like, info seems a little scarce.

Updated last post above with the KB source.

Me, I'd kill for DVB-S support and the chance to get BBC HD etc. without having to go for $ky or Freesat, as I've only just got the missis using VMC and she now won't use t'telly without it any more!
