Need some help or any advice please.

Was on the verge of buying a Panny TH 50 pz80B but i went to richer sound to buy a Onyko 875 and i know the mamanger there as i work with his brother.

I told him what i was going to buy and he said don't come and look at the Pioneer PDPSX5080D in there demo room.It looked really nice but the £1800 price tage was more than i wanted to pay as the panny was going to cost me £1300 ( with 5 year warranty).

Anyhow i told him i'd get back to him and bought the Amp on the way home i went into my local Panasonic shop to have a demo of the of PZ80B and i have to say the picture on DVD looked poor . Was pretty surprised and where you get black boarders ( top and bottom) the picture around there was jumping bad! .

The DVD was fed using HDMI as well .

Anyhow it now looks like I'm going to go for the Pioneer PDPSX5080D but just wondered if there was any reason i shouldn't?

Thanks.

Jumping bad? There is absolutely no flicker/wobble/jumping on the edge of the borders on my Panny screen. DVD picture quality looks great, and bluray even better.

Perhaps their TV or DVD player was faulty. Pretty bad for a Panny shop, but Panny shops are like Sony Centres, its a franchise, Panny dont actually own the shops.

Side by side the Pioneer has a tiny bit more black depth and detail, but to me the difference wasnt worth the increased price. Especially as you can get a TrueHD 1920x1080 Panny for less than the price of the Pioneer, and as the PZ80/85 "UK" models seem to have true 24p support (surprisingly the US ones still use 3:2 pulldown on the 80's) they are smooth and judder free as well.

I've spoken to a couple of people that aren't impressed by the panny :(.

I was all for buying it but after seeing it i was pretty shocked how poor it looked. And with all the gadgets on it some people over on AVforums seem to have everything turned off.

Again this could be a one off at this center or you've jst been lucky to getting a cracking set either seems i'll just save a little more and go for the Pioneer as speakers and stand i don't need.

Why are you paying £1800 for a 5080? You can get them for £1600, 5 years warranty, stand and speakers.

That's normal, with widescreen films greater than 16:9 you will have borders.

Urm... why pay over a grand for a TV!? A quarter of that price will get you a perfectly good telly and you can spend the rest of the cash on life.

But it will be a rubbish telly.

I like my nice telly, you choose to spend your money on a diesel skoda a while ago, other people like to have a nice flash TV, you could have spent your money on something else more worthy as could we all.

Yeah i've seen the offer your referring to ,well i think the one you are but that doesn't include speakers or usb input it says?

Feel free to email the link so i'm sure thats the one please.

Yes it includes speakers, stand and 5 years warranty. Why on earth would you pay £1800 without a stand, speakers and 1 year warranty?

Thanks for the mail.

The Pioneer 5080XD has a resolution of 1,365 x 768.

I assume its still superior to the full HD pannys TH 50PZ80B/85B/81B?

My dad's looking at the 42" plasma's.
