Downstairs toilet and back drain blocked

Used one of those spinny drain unlockers (only has a small hook, not a auger) on both and still blocked. Luckily doing it on the toilet didn't bring back up half rotten poo and toilet paper :o any solutions, call out plumbers?

You could store up a real monster movement and try and force on through. Potentially catastrophic consequences of this plan backfiring.
 
Best trick is to get a mop. Force it into the bottom of the bowl. Push it in and out and the blockage will often clear. If there is an issue further down the system you may have no joy though.
 
Either get a plumber, or spend 20 quid on some drain rods from wickes or similar and give that a whirl :)

or the mop could break and you have to stick your hand down and get it, which happened to me :(

Have a aldi drain unblocker- it's like a large tightly mount spring with a claw at the end.. Definietly further down the system, but where? :confused:
 
Drain rods are better really,

You had the manhole cover up outside? is that filling with water?

if you decide the DIY drainrod route, make sure you twist it clockwise at all times every time you extend the rod.. if you go anticlockwise they will unscrew and you will lose the rod down the drain, and in turn, pay a hefty fee to get it out lol
 
There might be a Y piece in the pipes somewhere around the manhole or where the soil pipe joins the main drain. It may be blocked there with something jammed in it.

How do you open the drain cover?
 
Find the "airtight" cover, clean around the edge with screwdriver or whatever, put garden fork or pick into lifting handle and gently lift until you can get your hands under the lid and move it away; try not to let it drop into the hole!

Next, pour water down various drains to see the direction of flow and if there is any; then try your downstairs lavvy with one of them blue disolving things in the tank so that you can tell it's that water flowing.
Work out where it's blocked and find you unblocker ....... sorted.


Sometimes you are able to unblock the thing with a stiff hose pipe with a decent pressure of water .... good luck.
