Crytek GmbH today announced that it has acquired Bulgaria-based Black Sea Studios Ltd. Under the terms of the acquisition, Black Sea Studios will become Crytek Black Sea, a wholly owned studio. Black Sea Studios development team will remain in Sofia, Bulgaria. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"We think the acquisition of Black Sea Studios is a great opportunity to continue our strategic growth and expansion. Black Sea Studios already has a very qualified and experienced development team in place and will be continually expanded in capacity to join our tradition of producing highly innovative and creative games which Crytek is known for.", said Avni Yerli, Managing Director of Crytek

"Joining the Crytek family was a logical step for us as we think it is a perfect match. We are confident that our team has the creativity and passion to further contribute in creating innovative and enjoyable games. We are fascinated about this opportunity and we are looking forward to work in this new exciting environment as Crytek Black Sea." said Vesselin Handjiev, Managing Director of Black Sea Studios, now Crytek Black Sea.

Black Sea Studio's do not need Crytek :mad:

I'm a bit oblivious when it comes to developers, apart from the upcoming Worldshift what work have Black Sea Studio done?

Knights of Honor according to wikipedia, which I've never heard of. Haven't heard of Worldshift either, so this gets a big 'oh' from me.

Valve or ID need to aquire Crytek graphics team only then throw a new engine together which scales well on a mixture of hardware.

well Crysis couldnt have done too badly, if they can afford to buy over other devs

im surprised by this i never thought crytek would be big enough to gobble up another dev

maybe EA are giving them business tips

Valve are already working on a new engine. Real physics, bigger maps.
Really? :D They can definitely pull it off. If we see Source 2 (or whatever it will be called) then everyone else is going to be playing catch up. :p

Yeah, I would love to see a source for that :)

All I can say that when we were contemplating the source engine for our game and were in contact with them we had issues about the current engine that we raised with them. Among them was the map size and the outdated physics engine. We were assured on both counts that they are currently working hard on fixing these issues. That was a year ago so we can only assume it won't be too much longer.

What I really want to see are real shadow maps too. No more double shadows when you have one object resting on another etc.
