I'm still looking to lose bf, but have started doing a lot more chin ups and dips after cardio, and I'm starting to think about getting on the weights proper again, so its protein time.

With this in mind I want a protein shake which will give me the lowest amount of calories. Back in the day I used to use one from 1getfit.com that was about 115 calories per hit with skimmed milk but can't for the life of me remember the name. This was about 6 years ago though!!

What's good at the moment?

I would presume just an unflavoured whey shake made with water is going to be the lowest caloried shake. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to link their myprotein code and where to price match etc.

yup you can't avoid the calories from protein so as high protein and as little everything else. The best you can get is the whey isolate, has slightly less carbs/fat in, not much though, cocoa and splenda to taste(cocoa, real pure proper cocoa has very litte in calories in the quantity you'll use) and splenda is essentially no calorie sweetner and that will taste pretty good.

Semiskimmed has 5grams carbs per 100ml, not bad by any stretch but soya milk is better and lower cal. I think semiskimmed is around 50cal mark per 100ml, alpro soya light milk is around the 20mark but its next to no carbs, all protein and a couple grams omega fats which you want anyway ;) Soya alternative to milk drinks, shockingly disgusting, soya milk, tastes great, has a few nice bits in it, and mixes just as well as normal milk and tastes a lot better than whey + water.

so myprotein.co.uk for something bulk and unflavoured and cheap, £30 for 10lbs of concentrate, £45 for same of isolate, you can see the figures on the website, isolate isn't going to be significantly better and most likely isn't worth the extra cash.

Thats like 4.5kg of protein which will last you a good while, take any prebought branded protein which tends to be often in the £40 region for a 2.4kg tub and you can see its stupidly cheaper to buy in bulk ;)

post workout it wont make too much difference tbh. he can make up the fats elsewhere easily enough im sure.

Why fuss over having rediculously low calls after training :) One time of the day a larger cal hit and an insulin spike is a good thing :)

Besides, you're not going to pack on kilos of lean mass if you're trying to loose weight, which renders protein a relatively frivolous comodity.

Ant
