Down under mate!
Hi guys and girls got some cash at last to splash out on a new rig,was looking at buying one of OCUK's prebuilt gaming rigs......but. Everyone I have spoken too recommends building it myself:eek:

I have never built my own maching so am TBH a tad nervous! but to hell with it I'm gonna have a go:D

Couple of questions,

What version of vista should I use? and should I go with 32/64bit?
Currently using ati,do I stick with ati or go Nvidia?
Do I go with duel cards?
Processors, duel core or quad core?

This machine is purely for gaming and browsing the net am not fussed about overclocking just want a fast stable machine.

Couple of things I have already decided on are,

Coolermaster RC-1100 Cosmos S "Sport" Silent Full Tower Case £140.99 inc VAT
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (920-000375) £56.39 inc VAT
24" widescreen monitor (Undecided on which one)
Would like a sound card aswell but not sure as to what make to go with?

I have a budget of 2k but could stretch a couple extra quid if it would make a big difference in performance.

Cheers guys.

Don't be nervous! If you ask in the forums and take your time then it will be smooth sailing i promise! Jus quickly off the top of my head - quad core, 64 bit vista, x38/48 mobo, 4870/x2, xonar sound card, corsair psu.

The asus ROG motherboards come with a very capable sound card.
Stick the two 500GB in raid for faster level loading.
and the 1TB for storage

If you allready have a legit XP then I would get the vista upgrade. But OcUK dont sell it.

If you can wait, then its around 3 weeks until the 2gb 4870 X2's are released. Deffo something which is worth waiting on if your planning to spend around the 2k mark :)

Perfect spec !

The only change I could think of will be going with thermaltake PSU to save 20quid and E8400 to save another 40 if you want.

Also I would grab Logitech G5 gaming laser mice, aftermarket cooling for these radeons and swap CPU cooler for Tuniq Tower or TRUE.
