PS3 is aiming at a more maturer market, with more money who want a 5 in 1 system (games console, media centre, blu-ray player, psp hub, etc) whereas if they had just gone down the console route it would have cost a 3rd of the price and they would have sold 10 times as much
How is it aimed at a more maturer market exactly, the PS2 was £400 when released and also was one of the first DVD players (albeit not that great). I can't see a difference tbh just technology advancement.
10 times, so your suggesting everyone who had a PS2 would all have gone out and brought a PS3, don't think so. Maybe 3 times but what would prefer 30million now or the potential to put a Blu ray player into 50%(?) of homes around the world in 10years + time?
dreamcast came too late into the fight as have sony - can you not see that? sony killed off dreamcast. although microsoft and nintendo havent killed of sony they have dealt a crushing blow which is going to get wider when the next xbox is released.
Sega's own stupidity killed the DC, it arrived late like the PS3, but unlike the PS3 it was built on old tech and in the end lacked 3rd party support.
currently the 360 can do much more than the ps3 so for you to say their next one wont have an impact on them is complete bull - and to say blu ray is their biggest selling point is also retarded nobody buys films anymore especcially £20 discs - why do you think branson sold virgin stores? he was operating at a loss of over £50 million a year due to piracy
retarded? your post is completely missing the point, as I've stated we are talking about 10years here, do you really think BR films are going to be £20 in 10 years? As for the next Xbox I believe that MS will concentrate on what they do best Gaming so my view is that they will continue down that avenue. This will not in turn stop consumers buying a PS3 when their first priority will be a BR player, and gaming machine 2nd...
you scream fanboy - i own all 3 current gen consoles - all of them have their faults but the ps3 has the most
Eh, what are you talking about, never implied your a fanboy at all just pulled your post apart as it came across unconstructive and totally unfound, especially the Dreamcast comment. And good for you owning all 3 consoles.
the only bad thing i could say about the 360 is - i have had 2 die on me but both been replaced under warranty and you have to pay for their far superior online services - other than that they have been perfect
who buys a ps3 to play blu-ray and all that jazz - i download all my movies ill happily watch normal dvd quality for free - i could download the blu-ray versions but it takes too long i can just upscale the normal versions
When I think of general public I immediately think of people like my dad who grew up watching B&W tv & just about knows how to use a computer. I'm sure he'll be pleased to know that the 360 online service is great and that he can download all his films off the internet to play on his 15" monitor, thanks
i currently have 2 blu-rays (1 came with console as a package, the other was the freebie casino royale) i never went out of my way to buy them
i own 5 hd-dvd's i got them to test my hd tv mission impossible pack along with constantine and miami vice
i doubt i will buy anymore even though they are now £2.99 a disc because of piracy
so for blu ray to be their main selling point is a fantasy world they are living in - its a home media centre which plays games
And I thought we were talking about the general consumer, not you?
