In a not so recent interview (it has been spotted/in print since April), Haruki Suzaki (project director for Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection) and Ryuichi Enomoto (international sales rep) talk to Filipino gaming mag GamEX Magazine about Tekken 6, which is currently out in arcades. The most important information regarding the game involves Suzaki tentatively revealing that Tekken 6 is due for a December 2008 release worldwide on consoles.

However, when pressed for more information regarding PS3-exclusivity, Suzaki replied "No. It hasn't been determined yet as of the moment ..." The statement -- given how the Tekken series has been strictly placed on PlayStation platforms for the past decade -- raises some eyebrows towards the possibility of Tekken 6 landing elsewhere as well. Suzaki reaffirms that the game is still being primarily developed for the PS3 ... but with that in mind, it sounds like Namco could end up pulling an FFXIII.

I was saddened to read it's not out until December. I thought it was going to come out sort of late September time!
Maybe I'll end up getting Soul Caliber 4 after all ;)

Anyway, just thought I'd post this and see if we can have a friendly discussion about it, after Final Fantasy not being PS exclusive any more.

"How 360 won the console war"

They bought all of the AAA PS3 exclusives.

lol

I'm not sure they (Microsoft) paid any money, just that Namco would like to sell to a larger userbase? Best for them if they can sell to more than one console!

Interesting. Although even as a 360 owner I don't care that much either way as I could never really get into Tekken, 2D fighters is where it's at. :D

Interesting to see where this goes, though.

Edit: Also, typically I thought most money on a console was made by games publishers paying publishing fees or something to the console manufacturer?

Id find this interesting if i could muster any interest in fighting games :(

I know what you mean.
Most fighting games I just don't bother with, yet I've always enjoyed Tekken... ever since the early morning sessions my mate and I used to put in on Tekken 2 on the PS1.

I've been tempted by Soul Caliber as I think it looks pretty cool, but I can never seem to get on with any other fighers, as I know the Tekken moves, and end up confusing my poor little brain when I try to play another fighter ;p

tbh it is not confirmed. PS3 are getting bigger and bigger and PERSONALLY I can see a price drop for PS3 at christmas for the 80GB PS3 consoles out next month. If sales go up (and I'm sure they will) I think Namco may leave it to just the PS3.

The PS3 is similar to the PS1 in how that took off.

Be interesting as Tekken 6 is using the PS3 hardware in the arcade machine, so it will be an easy port to the PS3. If it comes to the 360 then good, more people playing the game the better for the devs so we can get better games as the devs can make more profit. Only prob i see is that last time i saw it it didnt look that great.

I hope so, I really enjoyed the Tekken games on PS2. Now that FFXIII is coming to 360 I can't see me buying a PS3 any time soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did go multiplatform. I imagine how much Soul Calibur sells on both platforms could influence the decision though (and whether they receive any cheques from Sony or Microsoft...:p).

That would be legendary if they bring it out for the Xbox360

I saw this in an arcade about 6 months ago and wasnt so impressed with the gfx and no gameplay progress since 1996. Didnt look that great but there were loads of chinese people going mad on it. Big groups watching the vs fights like a football crowd.

Wonder if their are any mods you can do on the 360 d-pad to make it a better pad. Cant wait for Street fighter 4 but hopefully the d-pad will only be used for stuff like special moves.

I used to enjoy tekken but nothing has really compared to Street fighter for me but hopefully the mass american markey will tempt them towords the 360. Kind of like the PS2/3 controller for beat em up's.
