Grrr, thought i would have a rant, my gfs hotmail account some how got hacked yesterday evening really dont have a scooby how. I got a phone call from her saying she couldnt log on to her email and i said to her that i had tried to speak to her when she signed into msn but i didnt get a reply. She then said she hadnt been on msn at all and she couldnt get into her hotmail. She then tried ebay couldnt get into that .

Hmm this is pretty bad, her hotmail has all her details with ebay and all the online retailers etc. Fearing the worst i told her to cancel her bank card. So emails fired off to microsoft and ebay about the respective accounts. Today her ebay account was reinstated and to our surprise a nigerian man had bid on a couple of grands worth of stuff xboxs, wiis, iphone 5 laptops, 36 items in total

But what is worst of all is the email account i personally dont hold up much hope of her getting it back which is really annoying, a bit like loosing your wallet really and it goes to show how important your email account is. What we can be thankful of is recently my gf moved her paypal account details to a different email address which is pretty lucky.

The end

Ps. i have the address of the person who bought the stuff btw if you have any ideas what to do with it then go for it :)

I have seen a few hotmail accounts hacked recently. They do need to tighten up on security. My mate had his hacked and I had an email from "him" saying he was stuck in.... guess where, go on just guess. And could not get home, and please could I send him £2,500 to pay his hotel fees as he lost his wallet. Hmm, odd that as he was with me at the time!

Just me or do all the hackers in the world seem to be Nigerian these days :P

Glad you got your accounts sorted at least, one of "them" tried to scam me a while back when I sold my PSP. Asked me to post it to Nigeria, then sent me a fake PayPal email that was so badly done it looked no where near legit.

Unfortunately unless you pay for it MS will take an age and a day to do anything about it.

The missus' MSN also got hit reecently too anyone on my list will have been bombarded stating that Im a small chinese electrical wholesaler looking for UK sellers or something.

just remind people never to use hotmail for anything with ANY level of importance,
Only found out when some random started asking me about stuff when I used it to sign into MSN.

Checked the outbox and sure enough a loada mail goin out and a loada mail failed notices, so not just spammed they had use msn to send :(

changed the pass and details seems fine now.

Anyone want some chinese electricals @ wholesale prices? :P

no i dont think so but it had emails from ebay recently as she had bought me some stuff im pretty sure they automatically went straight to her ebay account although i could be wrong as she does the ebaying not me

I just tried on my own account; ebay links in your emails take you to the order but that's it - you still have to login to be able to do anything.

Maybe she uses the same password for both?

What is it with folks having all their really important stuff linked to something as crappily insecure as a sodding Hotmail account? A friend of mine recently got stung this way, despite several of us warning her about the distinct possibility of it happening.

They probably went on ebay and did the forgotten password thing and it emailed the password to the hotmail account.

Give me the address. I will smash his face in.

Dude, are you going through the change early?

The missus' dad nearly got his Hotmail hacked also.

When I logged in this afternoon, there were 12 attempts at changing the password via the questions.

Thankfully, they never made it and it now has a 12 digit number, letter and character password with some extremely off the wall secret answers to the questions.
