Living Costs (Utility Bills) - West London

Aright, I feel like changing the "location" in my profile, so I'm moving to West London (Chiswick).

I've got a few flat viewings tomorrow, but I want to be prepared to accept an offer so I want to know how much I can expect to pay on utility bills.

This is for two people in a two bedroom flat/house.

My guess is:

Gas: £20/m total (i.e. £10/m each)
Water: £30/m total
Electricity: £60/m total
Council Tax: £60/m total (edit: now assuming £120/m total)
TV Licence: £12/m total
BT Line: £10/m total

Basically, £100/m each.

Is this a reasonable guess?

Btw, I've searched, there's loads of these threads around but they're either out of date or not helpful.

As was said, the council tax will be about double that.

And most would regard Internet as a Utility now, so guess £10 a month each for a decent service.

You will no doubt want Sky or Cable - £8 a month each.
Insurance - £8 each a month.

To be on the safeside - bank on £150 a month each for utility bills alone ( as you are assuming in your post that Gas and Electricity won't go up in the next 3 months, and you aren't going to make any phone calls.....both highly unlikely.)

I have 22 outgoings a month if I include my car stuff and savings - totalling about £1650 - although most aren't essential. All are recorded on a spreadsheet every month so I know exactly what I have and what I don't.

I think your Gas is about right (£25/m in summer, £40/m in winter) but your electricity is too high. For a house with 3 people all with computers, hi-fis etc. we are currently spending around £33/m. Shop around for the best deals - our current tariff is EDF online but as soon as they hike up prices I'll shop around again.

Yep council tax should be around £120/m in that area for 2 people in a flat/maisonette.

TV is fixed.

And water - be very careful in a flat, because when I lived in one in London I was getting ridiculous bills, and I'm pretty sure this might have been because I was paying for several other flats also. I was too naive at the time to question it. If you are in any doubt, get a water meter or someone from the water board to check you are paying the right amount.

I live in a house with 4 others in Ealing and we pay £46 council tax each, £20 towards TV licence/package/internet and well, i havent seen a water/electricity/gas bill yet since i only moved in ~6 weeks ago. I'd budget minimum £100 per month.
 
^^ cheers dudes, nice to know i can cut a little of the elec. think thats me all sorted for tomorrow :)
