Final Fantasy VII remake: fresh new rumor ahoy!

I can now reveal exclusive inside info about Final Fantasy… VII!

Final Fantasy VII will be getting a “new” version of the classic game from the massive franchise and it will be exclusive (for now at least) to the PLAYSTATION 3. It is unclear whether a new version will be a simple remake or an extension to the original like Crisis Core, and if it will be a Blu-ray release, or on the PSN. Something else which won’t be exclusive is the original FF7 which will be coming to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade by the end of the year.

Both of this info will be officially announced at either Square Enix’s August conference in Japan, or the Tokyo Game Show.

Baseless, totally loose and without foundation, but it's something! There's no smoke without fire. There's got to be a reason why XIII's development is so slow and laboured. Everyone knows all of Square's best minds are busy working on VII. :D
 
Interesting. If I got it it'd be the first time playing through VII for me, which'd really be the only thing making it worth while. I'm not a big one for remakes... Except FFIV for the DS, but the attraction of THAT is that it's portable (and I lost my IV save! :(). Anything Square can do to milk that FFVII cash cow, eh?

Seriously, I'd love it if it happened... but I doubt it will.

That, and I honestly don't know what I'd do if they made an awful remake after all these years of wanting it :o
 
Damn I could end up spending £300 for the one game? Please make it for both formats, I can't not have this!! :(

The latest 1UP E3 wrap-up podcast (which runs for a more-than-lengthy 3 hours) has divulged some information on the possibility of a new PlayStation 3 exclusive from Square Enix. Towards the end of the podcast, Shane states that he has been speaking to representatives from Square Enix, who have told him that "Final Fantasy XIII on 360 announcement swung the ball towards Microsoft. At Square Enix's Japan event in 2 weeks, they will swing the ball back towards Sony".

The reason Shane was questioning the event, was due to plans for large announcements regarding the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Square could possibly be announcing a remake of Final Fantasy VII for PS3, a Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children game for PS3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PS3, or another brand new title.

It wasnt his usual "rumor" type more stated as insider info, still dont believe it though.
 
I would put money on it not being a remake.

They could easily make more by selling the original on PSN and doing a proper remake at a later date.

Im not sure but didnt Sony published FF7 in Europe and USA, so dont they still hold the rights to the original ff7 game so wouldn't they have some say in where it goes? This was the issue with Goldeneye on XBLA, that Nintendo didnt want it to go on the 360, but they have allowed Banjo as long as all the Nintendo stuff stay in the remake.
 
EIDOS published FF7 for the PC where as Sony only published it for the PS1. So Im pretty sure it can indeed come out for the 360.

Both, you announce the remake hype it up then release the original on PSN once everyone is rabid.

edit: personally I expect nothing, that way it can only turn out equal to or greater than my expectations.
