METAL GEAR SOLID 4 - Disappointed Thread *NO SPOILERS*

Yes they were, just not as long as some of them are in MGS4. If you play MGS4 without being a fan of the series or know what you're getting into, then you're going to be hugely let down. I can see where people are coming from though, MGS4 doesn't have enough gameplay compared to cut scenes but I wouldn't have it any other way.

MGS4 is the type of game you play when you have no interruptions or distractions, it requries your full attention to enjoy it. Its just not a game everyone can get into.

I played MGS1,MGS2,MGS3 & then MGS4 all back to back and after all that Metal Gear, it was nice to play a game like Mario Galaxy or God of War that was just straight up gameplay.

Im sorry, but YOU are wrong. Im a huge MGS fan & paid £50 for a Japanese demo of MGS2.

I agree there are cutscenes in the other MGS and i love cutscenes because they make the atmosphere of a game. However none are as long as MGS4's and the ratio of gameplay to cutscenes are silly. I put my full attention into the game and i intend to finish instead of dismiss. But its not worth £40 at all!

If you say you wouldnt have it any other way then it baffles me (your opinion). But... surely you would be better watching someone else play it on youtube instead of paying silly money for this so called game.

This is why I haven't bought a PS3 yet :(

I was going to get one when MGS4 came out (because evryone was saying it's "The" game for PS3), I waited until it was released to watch some decent length game-play videos (as I do with all titles). After watching about an hour of video I saw 10 minutes max of actual game-play
I think what killed it for me was near the start, watch a cutscene for about 15 minutes, you gain control and crawl under a truck, another cutscene!

Before I get attacked for dissing the Holy MGS4 (some people on here revere it like a religion!), I'm just saying I couldn't play a game like that.

Read my post again, I said the cut scenes in the previous games weren't as long as MGS4 cut scenes. MGS2 and 3 were still cut scene heavy. If MGS didn't have long cut scenes and just gameplay like splinter cell, I don't think Id give a damn about Metal Gear.

Its not like that ALL the way through. Id say on first run through there are easily hour plus actual gameplay parts before cutscenes. Act 2 for example.

Im not disputing that. I love the cutscenes in 1 2 & 3 but 4 just takes the biscuit. There too long and not enough gameplay between them. Where as if you had a 40 min cutscene and then 50 minutes of solid gameplay and then another 40 minute cutscene it wouldnt be half as bad. But its not like that. Its like 5 - 30 minutes gameplay then a cutscene that lasts for 40mins - 1 hour.

Yea, I agree but I didn't bother me as much as others. You have games with little to no story and then you have Metal Gear.

hhhmm unfortunately, i'm not a very patient gamer, I just wanna load a game and play it lol!
Also, I only get to play in 1-2 hour chunks during the week, and maybe 4 hours on a Sunday, so I feel with MGS4 I'd only get to watch cutscenes

Just wanna those things, you could possibly watch a retrospect video of 4 so you know whats going on then just play the game skipping cutscenes.

You should have beaten Octopus, Raven by the start of act 4, then there are 3 fights in act 4.

lol - im guessing the no spoilers bit doesnt count lol.

Thats why i kept all details basic and didnt mention much :D

Ive done 2 so far.... and they seem like bosses that dont have a great reflection on the story.
