8800GT or 9800GTX?

Righto, thanks guys.

If you can spend a little more then a 4870 would be better IMO.

You're probably right, but none of my games are demanding enough for an uber card; I just need something with a bit of grunt to raise the framerates on NWN II and WoW. £150 is the very top end of my budget, so the 9800 is as far as I can go.

:)

A 4850 will be faster than the 9800GTX and also take less of a hit when using AA. If you want lots of AA too go for a 4850. Well go for one anyway since they're also cheaper too :). £111 for the 4850 versus £150 for the 9800GTX.

The 9800GTX+ is actually a bit faster than a 4850 in most games.

The 4850 is the best card for £150, unless you can find someone desperate to offload a 4870/GTX260. ;)

Hmmm.

Well, I might have a sniff around the MM and see what's on offer. If there's nothing of interest, I'll go retail. :)

Yep the HD 4850 is a better card than the 9800GTX, so get that if going for new. Id even get the HD 4850 over the 9800GTX+, as performance is better on one or other dependant on game but the 4850 is priced better.

i had an overclocked 8800gt which was good for most games at my monitors native res of 1680*1050
then i sold it and got my BFG 9800GTX OCX [which is same performance wise as 9800gtx+]

only reason i got the 9800 is because i got it off the mm so it cost £20 to upgrade

my 9800gtx runs everything well at my monitors native res

i would reccommend going for the extra power and getting a 4870

afterall

if you forked out for a 1920*1200 24" monitor - you should have expected that in order to run games you would need a higher powered card

the 9800gtx would do it but it would be a hassle

i think 4870 is your only solution

save for a bit and get that

thats not fanboyism - thats speaking from personal experience
