IP35 Pro mobo...Fan EQ Question...

My IP35 Pro mobo is fitted with a 6600cpu and stock cooler. The noise from the cooler is like Concorde taking off under full re-heat.

Under the Abit EQ, I have set the Fan EQ to run under the 'Optimize' setting.
The temperature range under this setting is 75C and 25C degs.
The voltage range is 100% and 30%.

The noise level has dropped a great deal, with the fan speed being half of what it was (would prefer it to still be a little quieter)...and at idle load, Core Temp shows an overall 10C increase (from mid 30C to mid 40C).

My concern is over the temperature high setting of 75C...is this 'safe'...oh, and would a new cpu cooler run any quieter?

75C should be safe, the CPU has it's own internal throttling/shutdown system anyway if it thinks it's running too hot.

Well, a new, better cooler (e.g. TRUE, Xigmatek 1283 etc.) than the stock should be quieter.

Thank you Buff...you have given me some peace of mind :) I did not know that the cpu had its own throttling/shutdown system...learn something every day. Cheers.

Are you saying the fan does not hit 100% until temp hits 75c?

What is the max temp you cpu is hitting under load using uguru, coretemp, realtemp etc?

I set my fan profiles up manually in uguru in windows and then set it in bios to match.

Personally I would have 100% fan speed come on before 75c as I like to keep my cpu below 70c

As buff says, it throttles back if it overheats.

A lot of fans need minimum voltage to work so you will find that 30% voltage will be the miniumum voltage your fan needs to turn so you won't get it any quieter than that unless you change it.

I'd set it to kick in to 100% fan when it hits 60C. This will only happen (and might not) when playing games which you won't be able to hear the fan over the noise of the game.

I think that the fan will not hit 100% until the temp hits 75C.
I have just started the pc and got the following from Core Temp/Fan EQ:

TEMP:39,38,36,36/RPM:960
39,39,37,37/1020

So...it seems that fan rpm increases as the temp increases. I then ran Prime95:

56,56,54,52/1260
61,61,57,57/1380
63,63,59,59/1500
65,63,60,61/1620
68,67,62,62/1740

Seemed to stabilise at:

68,68,63,63/1800.

I will try your suggestion of setting up the fan profiles in uguru and then setting the bios to match...and I will also make sure that the min voltage is 30%.

All of the above is new to me...learning as I go...:D I appreciate the input. Cheers.

Your welcome. Try letting the fan kick in earlier but if it doesn't make much difference to temps, put it back.

Those temps look okay anyway.

You can always get a better cooler or better fan if the noise becomes too much of an issue.
