Households which download illegally to have speeds reduced

Torrents are not the problem. They are perfectly legal and can be used for legitimate means. It's like banning cars because drug dealers use them to transport drugs.

This makes no difference to me at all. I think I must have downloaded ~3 songs in my entire life.

I'm sure one ISP will cater to the downloaders, some start up or something. Downloaders are a picking bunch about their connection. Downloaders expect more from their ISP but their also willing to pay more. The free market will sort this one out I suspect.

There is increasing pressure, pirates always find a way though.

Go with a decent ISP - problem solved.

Does anyone realise quite how annoying it is to write a dissertation on internet piracy? Every day some new stupidity comes out that needs to be added

EDIT:Just read the article. It looks like this is what's happened since the Creative Britain White Paper. I'd dare say that the reason they've backed away from the French style system, they were implying they wanted, to this system of limiting your internet speed, is entirely due to the EU coming out with a paper calling internet access a human right and calling on all states not to remove it from anyone.

Yeah but virgin are generally the crapest of the bunch anyway. If it wasn't torrents they'd find another reason to throttle you.

The music industry needs to be ripped from its archaic position and come up with a new business model and stop complaining. If they had a reasonable deal to make it legal then most people would accept it and buy the music. Currently I am not happy with any of the packages which are being offered for DRM or limitations within. I am hoping things like the new sky deal may change this in the near future.

It's six of one and half a dozen of the other. People won't download if people don't upload and vice versa.

Yeah but the source of the problem is always going to be the people who uploaded it originally, regardless of demand for it.

Good advice. Go with an ISP which doesn't mind you breaking the law and ripping bands off.

Or go with an ISP that respects your privacy and doesn't indirectly support an industry that assumes everyone else has a problem rather than taking a good look at itself!

No they wouldn't. If people can get something for free rather than pay for it, then they will.

No they won't :p
