Hiyo,

As per title really. Is this 'culture' here to stay or is it somehow a phase? I ask because to be honest im ready to kill some people, im sick of the fact that someone could probably name Paris Hilton's pets and not have even heard of Sudan. We are being bombarded with 'news' of celebs personal lives and fashions and i just want someone to promise me it will all go away!

I think reality tv is linked to this culture. To me it seems that for some reason we are compelled to live our lives through other peoples.

Doesen't matter to me. I have absolutely zero interest in celebrities. I could not care one iota less about what drugs that **** Whinehouse is taking, who Britney Spears is banging behind the bikesheds, Paris Hilton, Britt Eklund, Kerry "****face" Katona, whoever's undergoing a sex change, or infact any of this Heat magazine diatribe. I'm too old.

I always thought there was a consistent "Celebrity Culture" for decades - just made more apparent through the creation of extremely meager versions of what really shouldn't be called a celebrity via shows like Big Brother et al.

Ironically heat doesn't really glamorize celebs, so much as bitch about them. The problem is womens insatiable desire for pointless (yet malicious) gossip.

The point i was making was your 2nd point, i never though Heat Glamourise them but being in the public eye, good or bad, makes some women want to be them too.

to be fair, Surely what celebrities are doing in this country has more relevance to my life than what's going on in Darfur. I mean, just because there's massive conflict goin on in Sudan, why should people know of Sudan any more than they should be expected to know about somewhere like Kyrgyzstan?
