Just been looking at some videos on youtube of Warhammer Online and it looks really really good!

I am loving the look it seems fairly realistic compared to wow.
The PvP looks awesome and the public quest system seems like a brilliant idea as well.

I am a bit disappointed in missing out in the collectors edition as it looks very good value.
Anyone else looking forward to it? :)
 
Great in theory but mass PvP which is what it all comes down it still just as crap as WoW.

Some great gameplay features and classes though, will probably buy it some time after release.
 
yea warhammer is looking great and im really looking forward to a lot of its features.

mass pvp is going to be brilliant imo, ive got about 5 internet buddies that have all played various mmos together over the year that are all going to buy it.

i know a few people in the guild beta aswell which were one of the top daoc guilds aparently they must be good though they got invited without having to apply and there all loving it.

public quests seem really nice to and theres over 300 of them aparently which is nice nomore standing around when you only have 20-30minutes to play farting around in a capital city like in wow.

towards the end of my wow playtime all i ever did was arena or alterac valley so pvp that actually acheives something should keep me playing for a very long time.

that paul barnett guy is great aswell i love all of his podcasts and interviews.

btw i have a CE edition preordered from play :) , got one from hmv that i will probably never claim to i originally ordered from them but they dont seem to have a clue.

aparently a lot of HMV's still had the pre order boxs sitting on the shelfs so if u really want one its probably worth checking out any HMV stores near you

Precisely what I meant, doesn't matter what you call it, RvR, PvP, sieging, once you're in and fight & more than 10 people get involved, it's awful.

On a grand scale RvR looks and sounds amazing, capturing objectives and pushing for capital cities etc, but the basic gameplay just isn't there.
 
I understand that Dark Age of Camelot had a similar RvR system did it work well in that game?

I got into beta of this about same time as getting aoc, tbh not sure which i was more disappointed with:( daoc is my favorite mmorpg too.
melee combat is slow and boring maybe it gets better later in game.
graphics are worse than wows too.
Might give it another try nearer release.
 
graphics are worse than wows? all the beta videos ive seen have much better graphics than wow.

the warhammer textures look far more crisp and detailed, i know the lighting in warhammer isnt properly in yet though

Graphics are worse than WoWs?? When the devil did you last try the WAR beta, in January??

The graphics are nowhere near AoCs (obviously they wouldnt be otherwise you couldnt have the large scale RvR), but worse than WoWs? You have seriously got to be kidding me, even in the WAR beta (where many of the graphics options are turned off/down) its still better looking than WoW. Unless we are talking stylization wise, but thats subjective.

I would hardly say these are worse than WoWs (even more so considering these are still on lower settings)

On the issue of mass pvp, yes Daoc had a similar system, and in Daoc the pvp was immense fun. Yeah you get zergs, but then zerging is always going to happen in any open PvP game...hell even in some first person shooters online you get mini zergs. Zerging is most definately not restricted to MMORPGs...its merely in MMORPGs that people moan about them the most. Thing is, in any open PvP game you will have zergs, I dont really see any way to stop it happening. Just like in real wars , zerging is an effective tactic, so people will do it.

At the moment I would rather play the WAR beta than any of the MMOs currently on the market, but of course not everyone will like WAR. Some people will try it and like it, some people will try it and not like it, everyones different. In my opinion the "golden age" of MMOs is over, the UO (YAY!), EQ1 and AC1 (and to a lesser extent Daoc) era was the greatest MMO era for me, pretty much every MMO since then has been a very pale shadow of those titles. I am thinking WAR will tide me over for maybe 2-3 years, after that I am not sure where the MMO market will be but looking at the stuff currently in development there isnt one beyond WAR which interests me.

If only EA hadnt scrapped the idea of UO2. :(

if u got in same time as the aoc beta then u where running the war client that was running on the lowest setting, try the client they are running atm.. looks miles better than anything in wow

Well the problem is, this game seems to be focusing entirely on 'mass' PvP. So it's just going to be pure zergs, nothing else. I remember playing on my friends RF online account to see what it was like. It has also has a mass PvP system where there was loads of players in one area fighting, and it was just pure zerg. No skill or thought involved at all.

WoW for example does have mass PvP to an extent, eg Alterac Valley, but it also has proper PvP like arenas where you have organised teams and a limited amount of players. The same with some of the other battlegrounds to a certain extent.

With regard to WAR I guess it's fine if you like mass PvP but for some or most people it'll start to wear thin and become unenjoyable very quickly especially when the PvP reward system is based primarily around what I can only describe as mindless zerging. Personally I see no fun in being zerged or zerging other people.

you do know that there are tons of battle grounds in war right? around 12(off the top of my head) smallest being 8v8 right up to 40v40
 
Time for another MMO to come out that people will say is going to take a lot of WoW's playerbase.

Age of Conan got pwnsauced and it's gonna be Warhammers turn soon.
