new 4850 - why low score 3DMARK 06 ?

set AA and AF to "application settings", mipmap level to "performance", adaptive AA "no tick in the box", vertical refresh to performance. Thats probably all you need to ensure for the time being.
Secondly as stated earlier, 3dmark loves quad core cpus so if running with a c2D cpu, you're gonna get a about 1500-2000 less marks in your final score. Don't worry too much about this benchie, its outdated and does not give a true indication of system performance, only as a comparison with other ppl's "similar" systems and lets you know if your components are running "in the ball park" as it were, use game benchmarks as a true indicator.

to be honest, as long as the system plays games well, who cares about 3d mark?.. yes your ego may be hurt, but really.. aslong as game performance is good then nothing else matters..

my old athlon rig got 9k

i did the test again with my p45 board and my c2d @3ghz on the 8800gt = 9780

i overclocked my 8800gt by about 12% and i got 9905

im waiting until my 9800gtx comes from the mm
and see how it goes

OMG, WHO CARES!!!

Go play some games and enjoy the real world performance.

bit harsh tbh

we are all part of this forum because we are hardware enthusiasts

part and parcel of that is that we want to see what our hardware can do and how well it performs when we push it

i dont think you should put the guy down as i am always interested in seeing how hardware setups perform so i can compare

i dont think its wasted threadspace as he has made an effort to docment his systems performance and has come here looking for comparison

everyone can get hold of 3d mark06 so its a good standard to measure systems by

no need for your reaction - at all

if you met up with the guy in the pub and did the same - chances are you would get a smack - so there is no need to use the anonymity of the internet to act like an ASBO brandishing chav

Oh, come on. How many of these threads have you seen in the last 6 mnths? Hundreds?

It's massive waste of time using 3Dmark06 on an up to date system except maybe for stability testing.

I'd happily tell the guy the same thing in the pub but he won't be there cos he's at home wasting his time running crapmark06 and I won't get served cos I'm an ASBO brandishing chav!

Seriously though, what's the point in worrying about a benchmark that largely irrelevant, when you could be playing some decent games and enjoying the hardware that you've spent all of your pocket money on.

Oh, and stop using the anonymity of the internet to throw insults.

Nothing wrong with 3dmark06, just its not as good as games.

i would sooner sit home all night and run 3dmark than go to the pub with you tbh

if you dont like being called names then dont post 'massive font' insults in peoples threads

just ignore it if its not something that interests you - you didnt need to look at the thread if it didnt apply to your interest

its like me going onto the mac sections and saying i hate macs
even though i have no interest in them
all it does is make you look like you cant get your point across in a civilised manner

I wasn't trying to insult the guy, just get him to start enjoying the hardware that he's bought and not worry about it's performance in a benchmark that doesn't really show it's potential.

Jeez, wind yer neck in will ya.

There you go again using the anonymity of the internet to throw insults, I suggest you drop it pal.

how was i insulting you - im saying you havent got your point across in a civilised manner - which is quite clearly the case

and what exactly will you do if i choose not to drop it
PAL

he obviously is enjoying it
otherwise he wouldnt be tinkering with it

but size 7, bold font is not really helpful/informative/advisory

i dont recall saying anything after that - must be in your head

'i would sooner sit home all night and run 3dmark than go to the pub with you tbh'?!

Did you get out of the wrong side of bed or something?

3dmark 06, a bad measurement of pc performance in current rigs?

Totally that. I gave up on synthetic benchmarks ages ago for anything other than stress testing. I would recommend that you should always test your hardware with the things that YOU use it for and look for improvements that way.

For me, the only exception is if you are trying to break some kind of world record or something.
