Just go down to the local decent salon and say what you want done or what they think should be done with it and go from there. That's what I do

Just grow it out.

The back will look longer naturally, lower on your head etc.

Dont trust hairdressers, even asking for a trim can lose you months of growth.

Eight hours? It's the 3 hours drying that gets me, although in this weather it's normally dry by the time I get to work.

The setting it on fire part is easy to cure. Just don't play with lighters around your locks.
