Lovely cars, very comfy.

Was at the Audi TT national on Sunday as one of two main photographers so we had access to trackside at Rockingham so we were sporting our white media vests :)

Will post some track shots later but I'll whet your whistle with some R8 shots, there were two there (not running the track unfortunately) so here's the silver one.

Was shooting with a 400D & 40D on the day, these were taken on the 400D with the 50mm f/1.4 prime, was using the 40d with the sigma 70-300 mainly for track shots.

I love shot number 5, best out of all of them and that gear knob is just so different from all the main stream cars... so cool!

Number 3 has potential if there was abit more contrast, either darker background or more light in front. The background's garage wall / fire extinguisher distracts and the headlights have these reflection, isn't as "clean" as I would have liked. But I'm just being nit picking here :p

lol you were one of two photographers and you took a No Swearing. Big Kev sigma 70-300, you would have been laughed off some race events i've been to!

even with my nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR lens and a 1.7 TC (£1500's worth of glass) the pro's still smerk

Yeah he did take that, did you not read it?

Also he brought glass that done the job. Who cares if another pro is there and laughs? As long as he gets the images he needs and him and his client are happy?

and you sound like one of them 'pro's' your moaning about, do you know what hypocrisy is??

@ OP... composition on all of them are excellent in my eyes.. my only gripe is that a few of the shots seem way too dark.. very nice set tho

for a f1.4 they are underexposed.

if you really want to see some pictures knock yourself out www.the-deep-blue.co.uk

i haven't updated it for a year or two, there are very few pictures that were taken with my D70 and none with my D300 they are mostly point and shoot cameras.

there are pictures on there that should/will be removed as i don't think they are good enough!

wow, constructive

We can't all afford pro level glass, I have an 8 week old son and we're on a single salary so I make do with the gear I have. So if other 'pro's' wish to laugh, then go for it, I'll be busy taking the pictures they should be taking while they're busying themselves willy waving :)

Does having L glass make a pro? No. Does a happy 'client' mean less than having good glass? No, a happy client means ALL and that's what I came out of Sunday with. Lots of people who were very pleased with the shots.

As an aside, the other photographer didn't smirk, in fact he was extremely helpful and together we covered all aspects of the day and we've been in contact since, going over the shots and I'll hope we stay in contact.

The 70-300 might well be inferior to the L ranges but then, for example the 100-400L is a good £700 more expensive.

I'd love to own some L glass but until then, I'll do what I can with what I have.

Here's some shots with the rubbish 70-300 :)

The R8 shots, yes slightly darker but my focus is on the lines of the car so was stopped down a little in PP, I'll probably have another go at those :)

it took me 8 years to get the kit i have now, i started with a 1.3 mega pixel olympus point and shoot, so i didn't go in and buy the best there was straight off!

unfortunately this type of event shows the deficiencies of the cheaper lens, this can be seen in the photo's.

no might about it, it is, you read any photography magazine or website and they all say invest in the glass.

you can always get a secondhand lens, you don't need brand new.

you can ask people to give you vouchers for birthday/christmas to help towards the cost.

i have spoken to many sports photographers and they have told me of the hoops they have had to jump through to be able to go trackside, work for a magazine, be published etc. etc. so you are very fortunate to have been given the opportunity!

the photo's look OK, but that is just it OK not wow which is waht you would expect from a pro at the trackside.

Who cares? seriously... The guy has already said he can't afford to spend millions of pounds on expensive, glass.. Can we at least not respect the fact he's gone out and tried his best with what he has, and come back with some good shots?

I remember a few years ago, Audi did some really cool adverts I remember seeing at the Cinema, where the car drove right up to the front of the camera in the darkness and it looked awesome. Would like to do some shots like that for someone sometime, would need some good lighting and location but it would look cool.
