If you've had a bad day at work, rest assured there's at least one person having a worse day than you.

That person books advertising for Porsche and is, perhaps at this very moment, getting the dressing-down of his life.

For the sake of simplicity, let us call this person Sebastian. Sebastian works for Starcom Motive, an ad agency that works for an agency that works for Porsche. And Sebastian made a bad mistake this week.

He sent out an advert for the new Porsche Cayman S Sport to just about every big car magazine in the UK, for inclusion in their next issues.

A nice big advert, complete with a glossy picture and lots of lovely specifications. Sebastian was happy.

However, then Sebastian discovered that Porsche hadn't actually released the Cayman S Sport yet, and that they were rather annoyed that he'd sent out all the details on a not-yet-released car to the motoring press at large.

Ooops... :o

Having said all that, doesn't seem much more for £6k..

o

of course it was a mistake. of course the bloke in advertising is going to be given a good dressing down..

good piece of free advertising by that company for porsche :]

Exactly..

"We phoned up Starcom Motive and they said everything was fine, as Porsche is set to formally unveil the Cayman S Sport on August 4 anyway - Top Gear mag doesn't go on sale until the 7th."

Oopsy daisy! :D

Not too keen on the Cayman as it is, it just lacks any muscle to it's curves. The new car is trying to look like something it isn't with colour scheming like that- not too keen on it really.

As has been said, for that kind of money you could get a Nissan GTR which will make it very had to sell. At 30-40k the Cayman is well placed for what it is, but at this price the competition level steps up almost exponentially.

But the GTR is a Nissan- nobody that wants the prestige name of Porsche is going to consider a £50k nissan (no matter how good it is).

But that's like saying people buy a Boxter just because it's a porche, they buy it because it is good at what it does, but many people who look at Boxters consider the S2000 and the 350z.

Hmm maybe, but to be fair I think a lot of people would choose a boxter because it gives them entry to the porsche name- it just so happens it''s also an excellent car.

in the 2nd hand market maybe, but i doubt that is the case for a new car.

regardless of that, you would be a fool to get that instead of the Nissan :p

colour combination is terrible, but, its still nicer looking than the GTR.
Oh, and those people who are looking at a porsche at this level will not want the associated stigma that goes with driving a jap car like a GTR ;]

ahh the stigmata rears its ugly head again:/

everyone knows that only girly girls, and girlier guys would buy a car on brand name alone.

unfortunately the cayman is more than enough of a car to warrent the stigma ;]

and no, its not just girly girls and girlier guys who buy cars based on brand name alone. look at all the people who insist on buying vauxhall because they percieve it to be british!
