MX5 starting probs - coil pack?

Quick question for the mechanically minded (lopez et al) around here. I understand that the coil pack is fairly easy to kill on the MX5, leaving the key at position II without firing the engine for sustained periods. Anyway, the 5 cranks nicely, has new plugs and new leads as of last week but is a sod to start, especially when stone cold. I've heard that there can be eathing issues that replicate coil pack failure. My real question is, should this little bit of metal be stuck into something? Does my pack look dead?

Funny looking cable tidy! Ah well, that's an earthing fault out of the window. I feel putting the damn thing back will be more difficult than removing it - it sits right behind the engine:mad:

It's rubber paint. It's just for holding wires, honestly. Notice how it stays just how you bend it? It's for bending around wires.

Cool. Cheers. Looks like the pack, might be the CAS apparently, not that I know where that is :p

Near it on the back of the engine :p Remove the rocker cover and you're more or less looking at it. I had to replace the rubber seal around mine because it had hardened and was leaking oil slightly which didn't get along well with the heater hoses!

Thats like asking someone to look at a AA battery and asking them to tell its charged or not just by a glance.. :D

I Don't know - am a bit of a 'tard coming to things like this!:p

Matthew.M - i've done a rocker gasket with another member of the forum, don't want to mess about with that without some support!

Tis not that hard to do! just make a cup of tea and stare at it for a while, it will become evident what you need to remove and unbolt to take the cover off.

failing that buy a haynes!! :)
