iRacing release price details

So anyone got any updates on this yet? How does it feel and look (I have seen the YouTube stuff) and what its like to use?

I am thinking of signing up for a look but would welcome any veiws Sim nuts who have tried it might have. I don't mind paying if its good, GPL physics with laser mapped trackings and updated quality graphics would be nice, with steering and braking feel and throttle responses close to a real race car would be ideal. No sim can be like the real thing unless you spend big to get the simulator motion thingy I have seen and even then one of the most important elements G Forces are missing but there is still room for improving on what has gone before so I was wondering if iRacing has cracked it yet?

Cheers.

I got my invite in the first wave, it was ok for a few days but then being confined to racing the same track and car for a whole week just gets boring as hell.

Well that's pretty pants then if that's the case, can you still test using both cars on all 8 circuits though, is it only racing that first into the 1 track, 1 car per week? Is it also possible to buy cars and tracks even if you haven't gained enough licence points for testing purposes?

Yes you can test on the other tracks, and yes you can buy other cars and tracks and test them offline, but there is no AI offline so its just you.

Hmmm... I really enjoy driving sims, and this sounds like something i could really see myself getting hooked into... But, im not willing to pay before i play, I think ill wait until they offer a demo+demo server and then make my own mind up if its worth the subscription.

There will be no free demo, the only thing they offer is a 1 month trial for $20.

Thanks for the feedback, i'll give it a blast to see what I think. If its as good as it seems then I might get enough from blatting it around the track trying to improve my times and if not then $20 is no hardship.

Watch this space ;)

Well I got my invite through this week so signed up for the 1 month trial and also bought Silverstone and the Radical for a play. So far I am VERY impressed with the driving feel of the cars and the graphics. Certainly a couple of leagues ahead of rFactor when it comes to the feeling the cars give you, but then I should flipping hope so having to pay for it!

Only had 30 mins or so on it today, but so far I am impressed and will update as I go if anyone is interested.

I got my invitation a couple of days ago, but havent really got any time now to get hooked into a new project... Just noticed on the email ive got 30days to use the promotional code, might wait til the end of the month when things are a little less hectic.

I got my invitation this week as well, at first I didn't like it that much (just the Solstice Rookie), could tell the physics/handling was good I just didn't get on with it

but I got a G25 on friday, set that up for the full 900 degrees movement and the solstice seems far far better (coming from an old ms ff wheel), controllable now unlike before and the phyiscs/handling really does shine, my previous favourite was GPL but I think iRacing takes the mantle, about time after 10 years :p

On the downside I'm not sure about the payment system, for the monthly fee I'd expect more than 2 cars, one of which (the oval one) I don't think i'll ever drive, and the other is a bit poor, then to charge $15 per car, and $15-25 per track, seems a bit of a rip off, for the price of one month of this and a car and a track (giving 3 cars and what, 7 tracks), you could buy any one of a number of racing games that give far far more content...

but we'll see, gonna continue playing it for the month, doing the rookie solstice season so we'll see how it goes :p

Thought i'd resurrect this thread as i've just been putting some more time into it, and i've gotta say I'm loving it, the rating/licence system really adds something, and the race i've just had was awesome, some really close, but sensible racing (except one bit but i'll let him off for being a n00b :p)

I found changing the fov (the [ and ] keys in game) to help a massive amount for some reason, round lime rock park I was getting low 1:06's, after doing that my best is a 1:05.028, simple change but made it so much different/better, still a lot of improvement though,

I also splashed out for the Formula Mazda and Silverstone, the car is a bit soulless to drive, but races could be very good and close as it's fairly easy to drive on the limit,

Off to do my second race of the evening now, and I can't wait till I can race the non-rookie solstice even, and I'm fairly sure now that i'll continue playing it for a fair while, sod the cost :p

Is this game playable with a 360 pad ?

I have a wheel but i think i must be a casual racer 'cos i can never be bothered setting it up.

I do prefer the 'realistic' racers though :)

With regards to the invite, I think the one at the beginning of the month was the last round of invites, but it's going 'public' (eg anyone can sign up) on the 26th august :)

Dunno about the 360 pad, it's a serious sim (beats pretty much everything else i've played hands down imo) so a pad might not be up to the job, but you never know, and it might just be the thing to get your wheel dusted off :p

My second race went shockingly badly, I suck. On the plus side I altered my FF settings according to the faq (always fun to read) and managed to get down to 1:04.716, and average 1:05.2xx over 8 laps, tad better than before :p

This maybe the thing to tempt me back into sim racing, not played anything thats held my interest since the ocuk GPL league days.

Trouble is its just so damn expensive, if you want full content for a year, even with all the discounts for bulk buying it works out to like $370, that is a **** load of cash when you can buy something like GTR evolution outright for under £20.

Aye, it's a hell of a lot of money, but then you don't 'have' to buy everything, and you don't have to buy it all at once, hell for the first 4 weeks you're restricted effectively to the two stock cars, and obviously if you don't want to race ovals thats a lot saved there...

from the past two days though it's quite possibly worth it though, definately worth $20 for a month's 'trial' to see if it grabs you,

I've played most of the other sim games, eg GTR, Race'07, rFactor, LFS, GTL (admittedly some of those just the demo), and i've even ordered GTR Evolution, but they all lack 'something', can't put my finger on it but it's what made me keep going back to GPL time after time just to improve myself,

iRacing, for me at least, has that same something, but extended, although there is still the hotlapping bits (which is what I did most on GPL) to truly get the most out of it you've got to race, and race real people at that.

Hopefully they'll continue to tweak the game with things like private leagues/seasons, as well as adding more cars and tracks, maybe some multi-car season as I believe atm it's all single-make races, but that does add to the close-ness of the racing a bit, apparantly the skip barber series is really good fun racing, can't wait :p
