Im sorry in adance for this rubbish post, my friend has the above with Q6600 and he is getting low FPS in FEAR,

all settings pretty high at 1680*1050 and getting 20-30 FPS. obviously he should be getting around 100..

Anyway he has Cat 8.7 + i went through with him to check settings in catalyst as best i can to set things to performance/let app decide.

he has said that for a bit it was 150fps or so but after a minute max it goes back to 20-30 fps..

Any ideas?..

No he hasnt got any other game installed because he is a *****

I don't think we can really troubleshoot this if he doesn't test some other games on his PC. It's very hard to tell whether it's the PC causing the problem or FEAR.

I trust he has FEAR fully updated etc?

Lend him a game to test or something.

ask him to download and run 3dmark06. Should show if his system is running as it should

I was getting slow downs and stuttering in games recently. I went from 2Gb -> 4Gb yesterday and everything is back to being smooth! No problems at all. This is with Vista x64 also. How much memory does your mate have?

But I think if he could test some other games/benchmarks as suggested above that would help. :D

Try uninstalling any logitech HID drivers e.g. setpoint/G15 etc, there's a known issue with logitech mice/keyboard software causing FEAR to run like a dog.

im going to give him a game to test, Grid :D

well think he got 13K with a 2.4ghz Q6600, where i got 12k so on that end its all fine...

atm i think it might be fear but i will find out soon,

any chance he might be running DX10 on a DX9 game?

problems with them on Vista 64?.... and i think he uninstalled setpoint although i believe the problem was there before he installed setpoint so i'll double check all these things

I have that issue with FEAR, on a 3.6Ghz Q6600, 4Gb ram and a 8800GTX. It runs 80FPS for the first couple of minutes then turns to a stuttering mess. Tried different drivers etc (using driver cleaner). I have heard that FEAR has an issue where it doesn't unload the textures from the vram, so you run out of vram. I just played something else in the end. :(
