Excuse the daft question, but even Google can't seem to give me a straight answer.

For holiday insurance purposes, is Tenerife classed as being in Europe? I don't know whether I need insurance that just covers me for 'Europe', or whether I need to go for the 'Worldwide' option.

Thanks in advance!

really

Duty Free Tenerife is not strictly in Europe so your home country's limits apply. E.g., for an EEC country Tobacco - either 200 cigarettes, 250 gm tobacco, 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos. ALCOHOL - 1 litre. spirits or liqueurs over 38% proof OR 2 litres of fortified wine. (sherry, vermouth etc), plus 2 litres of still table wine &50 litres of beer. PERFUME - 50 grams perfume or 250 cc/ml toilet water. GIFTS - 32 pounds sterling of gifts per person travelling and 25 lighters per person.

I don't need you to tell me the personal allowance thank you very much. :)

Biohazard, there's a difference between being in Europe and being in the EU. being in Europe is a geographic factor, whereas being in the EU is completely different.

My parents go to the Canary's at least 3 times a year and that sounds about right.

Unless it has altered since February of this year.

I know not exactly the best source but one of the first links on google.
But for insurance purposes Europe will be fine.

It is within Europe but outwith the Customs Territories. Just because you don't get your fags back doesn't mean it isn't in the EC.

Yes, it is NON EC fiscally that doesn't mean it isn't in Europe. It has a special setup, namely the Zona Especial Canaria (ZEC).

Glad it isn't just me that thinks the whole thing is confusing!
So to sum up, regardless of bringing smokes back and so forth, I will be ok with 'Europe' covering travel insurance we think?

With regards to insurance, just select Europe. I've successfully claimed insurance in Gran Canaria, the next island along with Europe only insurance.
