Just picked up a new Pioneer P88RS-II (I believe these to be especially high quality sound,) so could do with some advice on what speakers + amp to go with it.

I like bassy stuff, bit of Drum n bass and the prodigy.

Very subjective discussion car audio. You do get what you pay for though.

The P88 is not new, its a little bit old, but still a very good unit (retailed at £450) although its more for the SQ fairies (like me :D ) than for the SPL nuts (like you)

The unit puts out high voltage on the pre-outs so you really need to match a decent amp and speaker set. What car is it to go in?

Say upto £400 for amp and speakers + sub if necessary - it's to go in a toyota soarer.

What does SPL mean?

This is the version 2 of the P88RS if that helps (I think it has better DACs?)

The burr brown dacs? SPL - Loud banging noisy music, SQ - loud, very high quality music. TBH, you have a fantastic unit for SQ, but I would have gone for an Alpine from what you say about your music taste. I'm finding Pioneer has gone really rubbish these days with terrible customer service (4 months waiting for a knob) coupled with fragile earth tracks and poor quality components. I won't buy another. (Had 9 different pioneer units in the last 5 years)

Anyway, toyota soarer? Third or second gen?

oh! retro! :)

A few people have suggested Focal polyglass for the speakers, but I think you need something a little more hardy. Don't quote me, but I think the speakers are 4 inch in the front and 6.5 in the back?

I would get:

SPL Dynamics SD-4.2 (£60) for the fronts
SPL Dynamics S-2604 (£100) amp
SPL Dynamics TD-602 (£50) for the rears - these are coaxials

As for Subs, you could keep it in ther family and buy the SPL V12 dynamics pac, which is pretty good by all accounts and comes with an amp wiring kit. This will set you back £199 and you can always add another if you want more bass.

Buy some half decent RCAs and Voila! Shame you aren't closer or I could install it for you.

BTW, all the above is available from www.caraudiodirect.com (who I have no affiliation with) but come highly reccomended.

Also, sign up at www.talkaudio.co.uk for lots of audio advice

Hope this helps
