I am contemplating which to get and would like some advice, I have done some Googling but found no comparisons (performance etc).

I am also thinking of getting a 1gb 4870 this month & another next month or would this be overkill for my system (check sig)?

-Thanks to future advice

i dont think 1 gig version will get much gain then 512. maybe if the new games comes out that need loads of video memmory. but in the reviews of 512 mb the games not suffering from lack of it maybe because it is ddr5.

You might save yourself a bit of hassle just going for the 4870X2 which comes with 2GB (2x1GB) as standard. Can't remember when that's getting released, think it was some time in August?

4870X2 13th/14th August

Your X48 mb should be fine for crossfire, think it has 2 x PCI-E 16x slots ? Anyone else confirm this ?

Yes it has 2 * X16, that was one of the reasons for getting the board, for Crossfire.

I think I will get 2 * 4870 512's then forget about upgrading for a couple of years!

What res are you planning on running at? If it's 1600 or less then the 512s should be fine. If it's more then you'll probably want a higher ram card.

Why bother with two 512MB 4870's when the 4870X2 2GB is so near?? makes no sense, really stupid IMO. Your'll have more memory on the X2, possibly better performance, and less noise.

I have a 4870 for a short time until the X2 arrives. For 1920x1200 and under it will be great. But i can run into the 512MB memory limit on my 2560x1600 monitor.

You're comparing 1 card vs 2?
