First Ever Round of Golf

I am just as crap, bogey or double bogey every hole, best ever was a par.

Though it seems everyone at work plays golf, even the women does, one of the office juniors even plays off a handicap of 12.

You will find that many juniors that are fairly good like the one in your office had played golf for a significant amount of time. At my club there was a 16 year old off 9, he had been playing since he was 7.

Well in the end we only played 9 holes which I managed in .......................

65 :o
I had 2 holes where I only boggied (sp) and I hit the water 3 times which didn't help but the important thing was I really enjoyed it. One of the other lads who has been playing for 5 years hit a 62 so that helped my self esteem a bit though the third lad said he had a really bad day and is normally much better than that

I don't think I've ever been as happy as chipping in on the 9th at my local. 65 yard beaut for a birdie. Great feeling. Come very close to aceing the first a few times, closest i've got is about 2ft.

Excellent, an excuse to mention my hole in one!!

I was playing skins with three friends, and another 4 friends were in the group in front of us. I three putted the first 3 holes, prompting one of my playing partners to suggest "Why don't you just hit your approaches closer to the flag so you don't have to putt?". On the 4th hole, which is a 140 yd par 3, I hit the best 9 iron of my life. It landed 10 feet past the flag and spun back into the hole. The 4 guys in the group in front were standing next to the green watching us play the hole, and apparently one of them (who thinks he's God on the golf course) said "I bet you none of them even hit the green" :D

Everyone went mental, and I had a hole in one with 7 other people watching :D

I'm gonna big myself up for the first time ever on here. After all, golf is the only real talent that I have. I took the game up aged 10 and by the time I was 17 my handicap was 2. I was offered an assistant pro job at the course where I was a member and they were willing to put me through the 3 year pga course to qualify as a teaching pro. However, my life took a different turn as i became a father at a young age and the long hours combined with poor wages for 3 years meant that I found alternative employment. I then did not hit a ball for more than 10 years (i'm 31 now) until I got talking to a work colleague last year and discovered that he was a member at a local club. He convinced me to have a game with him and oh boy has the bug bitten me once again. I'm now a member at this club and put my first card for handicap in last week, i shot 77 gross (8 over par). I am now determined to attain a handicap of 4 or better within the next 2 years.

Btw, just so you can realise how good they are, the difference between someone like me at 17 and a tour pro is like the difference between a scratch player and a 10 handicapper. I'm sure i've read somewhere that Tiger Wood's handicap would be something like +12 if calculated against all of his pro tournament rounds!

Enjoy your new hobby, it probably is the greatest game in the world.

Welcome back to the game Yozz. Sounds like all that playing in your youth has stayed with you to be able to get bak down to 77 so quickly.

Recieved my new set of clubs this morning and I'm chuffed to bits. :D

EDIT: Photies! :)

Right deffo going to have to take my old clubs out and hit some balls at the driving range....

Been several years though and the clubs are probably a fraction too small but hey I'm still gonna try

My best was a birdie at a par 3 (2nd hole) landing the ball within a couple of inches of the hole - only thing was that I hurt my back and couldn't get any decent shots for the rest of the round. Usually average 107 playing. Would love to get out more.
