I'm gonna big myself up for the first time ever on here. After all, golf is the only real talent that I have. I took the game up aged 10 and by the time I was 17 my handicap was 2. I was offered an assistant pro job at the course where I was a member and they were willing to put me through the 3 year pga course to qualify as a teaching pro. However, my life took a different turn as i became a father at a young age and the long hours combined with poor wages for 3 years meant that I found alternative employment. I then did not hit a ball for more than 10 years (i'm 31 now) until I got talking to a work colleague last year and discovered that he was a member at a local club. He convinced me to have a game with him and oh boy has the bug bitten me once again. I'm now a member at this club and put my first card for handicap in last week, i shot 77 gross (8 over par). I am now determined to attain a handicap of 4 or better within the next 2 years.
Btw, just so you can realise how good they are, the difference between someone like me at 17 and a tour pro is like the difference between a scratch player and a 10 handicapper. I'm sure i've read somewhere that Tiger Wood's handicap would be something like +12 if calculated against all of his pro tournament rounds!
Enjoy your new hobby, it probably is the greatest game in the world.
