Hey All,

it wasnt me, it was my step-dad who got assualted by our builder at our new home. The situation is that we built 4 flats, 2 for the builder and 2 for us. The builder has assualted my step-dad (property owner) in a previous incident also.

Our neighbour/builder was arrested this morning and held for 7 hours and my step-dad was taken to hospital for stitches and is now recovering. The Builder, S, was charged with Assualt and there will be a court case.

With our 2 flats we intend to do B&B, our Builder/neighbor is arrogant violent and angry at getting charged. He confronted my stepdad saying we couldnt do B&B before the fight broke out, and I suspect he will do what he can to disrupt our plans.

I've never set up a CCTV array before, I'm looking at the kits at a competitor I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on CCTV. We will get motion detector spotlights at the frontdoor/carpark and rear entrance. Generally we need 4 cameras to cover everything.

and does anyone have any tips at all in a situation like this? Its a right mess...

How is he getting charged with assault? If your stepdad is getting stitches, I'd have thought that it was ABH =\

personally, I'd sell up and move.

"Brutal Assault"....sounds like a Death Metal band. :D

On topic....eat his children. It's the only way he'll learn.

Truthfully, though, you're best having a look around at the available CCTV kits, even have a look through your local directory or yellow pages for specialists who can supply and fit everything, including wireless CCTV hooked up to a DVR. To be honest getting someone else to do the whole lot is worth the money in hassle.

There are many quality home security products available from general home DIY stores - EEE & Who provided my home security setup to protect the cars (until a garage was built):

Motion sensor lights set to the perimetre of the parking zone and a camera setup through the VCR- tape recording on longplay for 10 hours or so turned on when going to bed, and then any disturbances/incidents taking place within the zone are fully lit & recorded on camera.

Came very much in handy when we caught some cheeky clump of grass about to break into a car (even if it did record dad chasing away the suspect- bare arse on show and trungeon in hand) and also catching badgers/foxes on camera :)

I'm sure there is a more sophisticated way of doing the same with newer technology but this was effective and pretty flawless :)

ABH is assault.

Assault is a rather broad term, as they are categorised, Section 18, Section 20 being the most serious.

To me this sounds like it would be classed as a Section 47 assault which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment and or a fine.

I'm not sure how straight forward it is to install CCTV, I think there are laws to abide by and you also have to make everyone aware they are on CCTV.

Also, I've also heard things about it not being admissible in court. Unless the person is aware of the camera

Why would a video of someone punching someone in the face for example not be admissible based on the fact that the offender was not aware he was on camera!!!
