Hello

I am planning to buy a new motherboard and i am a little confused about which motherboard to buy.
I am thinking of Asus Striker 2 extreme and Asus P5N64 WS PRO.

Please tell me which one is the best ,and which one do u suggest me to buy.

Regards
Mike

The most obvious question is why have you picked those particular two? Are there any features you want especially from either of them? The Striker II Extreme uses DDR3 which is very expensive and offers no real benefits over DDR2 at present. THe P5N64 is a workstation motherboard and has a PCI-X slot if memory serves.

What else will you be pairing it with?

I am a fan of DDR3 and i am going to built my 1st ever PC ,therefore i am going to need a motherboard that offers SLi and 1600 FSB for my qx9770.Additionally my Cosmos S case has 4 USb ports at the front panel which means that i am going to need a mobo with 2 x 10 pin usb header connectors.

Please Tell me what you really suggest me to do or even better which motherboard is the most suitable for me?

Regards
Mike

sounds like you got a lot of money to pay double what someone else would and have no better performance than the person who's pc is half the price

every motherboard has USB connectors, dont even think about that..

DDR3 is pointless IMO..
the QX9770 is the worst thing you could buy, i struggle to find out what is even worst than that.. any ideas people?

I actually tried to answer last night but the forums screwed up so here goes again.

If you want DDR3 and SLi then you need the 790i chipset but unfortunately it doesn't appear to support 1600mhz FSB as standard (and therefore a QX9770) although bios flashes may allow it to do so. I don't know which of the 790i based motherboards is the best but I usually go for an Asus unless something else is clearly better.

The other main option for a dual graphics card system would be a Crossfire motherboard, either the X38 or X48 based options. Both support 1600mhz as standard (or most do, check in the specifications), some support DDR3 and some don't. I think currently the Intel based options are better overall than the Nvidia ones but opinions will doubtless vary. A couple of 4870s in Crossfire would definitely not be slow though if you must go for dual graphics cards.

However the QX9770 means you are paying a premium of about £700 for a small speedbump and unlocked multipliers over something like say a Q9450 (which will work on any of the previously mentioned motherboards as a 1333mhz part). It is of course your money but I think that Intel Extreme Edition CPUs and DDR3 offer remarkably poor value considering you'll be paying such a premium for them.
