Which is the best CPU Fan Cooler this days?

Tuniq Tower, TRUE, Noctua NH whatever they are on now and some top notch termal paste (Arctic MX-2 is supposed to be the dogs danglies atm) cant go wrong really

Is Frostytech a reliable source of information?

Only heard about them the last month or two?

Abit hard to say if any review site is reliable due to different ideology of the best ways to test Hardware but whats good about frostytech is in the 10 years they have been about they have always stayed independent and do off the shelf reviews unlike other review sites that are biased reviews due to being given free samples.

This is their test gear

One thing i personally like is that they include MP3 recordings of the heatsinks in their reviews so you can hear how the fan sounded in their sound box in the Acoustic test page of the reviews.

Because the later Thermalrights such as the True and the IFX-14 have more concaved bases than the ones that came before and frostytech at one point refused to benchmark Thermalrights based on this problem but on contacting Thermalright they denied that it was a Quality Control problem and at one point made out that the bases not being flat was a design feature so Frostytech held a poll and asked the readers if they wanted Thermalright heatsinks to still be benchmarked even though they got different results from each heatsink in a batch of the shelf due to the bases not being flat.

The results of the poll was that the readers still wanted Thermalright heatsinks to be benchmarked which Frostytech now includes but they will only give off the shelf results and not lapped results in which the True when lapped beats the TR-120.

As I said before, they used different Fans for each.

However, here's an interesting Article for you all to read: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/thermalright-si128se-ultra120a.html

The fans are chosen based on the heatsinks Fin Pitch and Heatsink depth for air pressure.

But in anycase how would using the same fan on every Thermalright make the base any flatter ?

But my point still stands. Different fans would equate differing static air pressure across the heatsink, regardless of the base shaping, and thus equate to different results for comparison purposes. If the same fan was used (or indeed a series of fans were used from low cfm to high cfm) then we would gain a much truer insight into which was the better heatsink. The other problem here obviously is that mounting the heatsink introduces human error with paste that is used, problematic mounting ect ect...

I accept that the concave/convex issue stands, but realistically, better testing results would come if ideally the same fan could be used across all heatsinks that

I'm not trying to start an argument here, more that I think the issue of differing fans is more prevalent than the issue surrounding the shape of the bases. Thermalright designed the bases that way for their own reasons (as 'interesting' as it may seem to us), its our choice wether to lap them for any potential 'performance' gains.

In summary, I personally take all HSF reviews with a pinch of salt and try and add a grain of truth from my own experience :D

Tuniq because it comes with a fan and controller not the best but best value imo. There's little in it really we are talking a few celcius between most of them.

Is the Tuniq Tower's included fan good/quiet?

I'm just wondering if it would be worth changing the TT fan, or if the Noctua NH-U12P would be better instead for quietness/performance/cost. There's so many to compare :(

Have ordered the black finish version of the TRUE120 but need reccomendations on a good fan to use with it.

Scythe S-Flex, Sharkoon Silent Eagle, Noctua, Akasa Amber

etc etc

If you have gone with the black version (pricey ouch!), get two fans and make use of the 2nd set of fan grips :D

Yip the black version is a bit pricier than the standard version, but im going with an all black theme in my eclipse 62 as far as cables and fans. may go for a pair of scythe s-flex.
