Got a new car! (Mx5)

I do reccomend the stock mk1 gear knob. It doesn't look very exciting but is very durable and complements the box well for swift and accurate changes. You are right tho the knob and handbrake look shocking.

The consensus seems to be Toyo R888's give the best grip. Goodyear Hydragrips are a decent budget alternatives. Mine is running on Avon ZV3's and they are fairly good.

Kitchster_uk,

What do people think to Toyo T1-R's as I can get them for £33 each in the size I need. :D

mattpc, Will also get new parts for the gearchange to make it feel like new. I bought it with chrome wiper blades on it though. :o £4.68 lighter and I had a new set of wiper blades, much better.

If for some reason I decided my CTR had to go, I'd buy a Focus and have one of these for the weekends. I used to hate them, but now I really like them rather a lot.

The only issue may be that I'm 6' 3" tall- would that be a problem, would I fit?

Not heard anyone complain about them, should be fairly good. The owners club www.mx5oc.co.uk as the best geeks for things like this. Just need to watch the wet weather performance and the fact you can chew through soft rears in a few thousand miles!

Very nice, and also I get the impression early Mk1s have bottomed out in value, so you could consider it a classic.

everyone thought they had bottomed out a couple of years ago. Reality is at the moment that they have hit a new low. However, I suspect nice cars are going to hold their value and rougher examples are going to go for peanuts.

Seem to be quite a few of these of a similar age going for about 1500 quid. A friend picked one up the other week and I must admit as a bit of a toy they look pretty good fun! :)
