Nope.
All iPhones have a 3D accelerometer in their hardware. It's used by lots of applications.

Exactly. Slightly offtopic, but there are some really good uses of the accelerometer now. I downloaded a superb little helicopter game that you control by tilting the screen, and there's the obligatory marble madness type stuff which is incredibly responsive, plus iPint haha

Yea, i havent went outside with it yet to lock on. But its got an option to select internal.

Im tempted to go 0-60 time my bike

btw that http://www.racechrono.com/ is a GPS based thing, not relying on the accelerometer.
