Really I long for my Alfa back on the terms of reliability and quality.

Mine is a fsh, 48k, one previous owner 51 plate CDT 2.0 diesel model.

Very nice to drive, comfortable and retro looking. However the build quality is a complete joke. List of problems in three months.

Failed ECU, lucky got a second hand one £220
Failed engine fan £360
Failed air-con compressor around £300 not done yet.
Failed MAF £79 for a Pierburg version instead of £250 for the Bosch thanx 2 Rover Tuning
Failed remote boot lock £60
Failed fan sensor £95
Failed interior blower £300

Working on the vehicle is a complete joke as most bolts are siezed or just turn in the sockets. Parts are available but everything seems to cost £250 when you speak to suppliers.

On the plus side the BMW M47 is a gem but only after having it re-mapped from the pathetic 114bhp to 150bhp at a cost of around £159.

Gearbox is notchy and seems to change with temperature. Gauges such as the temperature gauge struggle to do the job designed too. They jump from cold, operating and overheating without any time to react. You drive along listening to any jumps or squeals wondering whats likely to fall off/fail next.

Trading it in hopefully, so if a trader offers u a 75 on the cheap plz heed my advice. DONT BUY IT!!!!

I see a link between the BMW engine and the engine components

Are these common faults on BM diesel cars? If so a 320d is out of the question as a replacement.

The MAF certainly is, and I suspect the ECU will be the same as the one used in the BMWs. That said, the number of ECU's that get replaced when there is nothing wrong with them is incredible, I'd bet at least 50% of replacements aren't needed.

Does the engine have swirl flaps? They'll be next to go I suspect :D

Save loads of money with this wonderful diesels eh

Fuel has been great saving. These problems are not really a charataristic of diesels I would say, just Rover and the shoddy build quality.

They had a great opportunity to build a good car with good support and still cocked it up regardless of what the motoring press said.

Next car will still be diesel. My little old Fiat Brava did loads of miles without trouble.
