help me price up s2000 running costs....

I'm trying to work out how much an s2k would cost me to commute in :D

Assuming i'm going to cover 17k a year the petrol works out to be about 3k a year... insurance is 1.2k (:eek:)
Tax is going to be £185.00

What are tyres like on these? assuming i'd get say 12k (reasonable?)
whats the servicing costs like?

Depends how you driver for tyres, 12k is achievable though. They are pretty cheap cars to run.

12k on rear tyres is a little optimistic ;)

Although the good news is that I'm finding Falken 452's excellent and very well priced :) (£68 a piece for 245's on my 2004 model)

:) i've not paid that kind of money since i was a wee nipper (only 28 now...)

rubber wise i'm looking at around £70 a corner, for say 12k ~ £400 a year on tyres...

servicing looks like every 9000 miles at £200-300 a shot, so lets say £400 a year as well...

All adding up :)

whats the deal with normal/super unleaded? do you really need to 97 ron stuff? what kind of MPG are you guys getting from them with mixed driveing?
 
These are quite cheap to buy now too and by the sounds of things cheaper to run than my Leon Cupra... mmmm

17k is fairly decent mileage, not to much hooning and using plenty of motorways I imagine anyway?

Of course not, the S2000 blows up in traffic as its not a car for town driving :D

I want a car that i can enjoy driving, even when I'm pootling/hooning along on motorways or crawling around in traffic...

I'm not really interested in wafting around in an arm chair although i am willing to compromise in some ways (thus the s2k instead of say a vx220), the 17k is mainly made up of commuting, but does include a reasonable amount of recreational driving :) outside that.

Just for an idea - i was doing similar distances in my MX5 which was fine, and i'm currently doing the journey in a '96 1.4 polo which is perfectly fine (although a little "interesting" at *ehem*... 70)

edit: yes i'm looking to buy second hand... although i'm really not sure what the numbers there are on about :confused:

Edit edit: before people start wading in with the "if you need to ask", "not the right car" etc etc i'm just doing my homework.... i know if i was to be sensible i'd probably buy a mondy/3 series or similar, but they don't do it for me. Money wise i'm trying to work out what my exposer is like.

Have a chat with Will Gill then, he had an S2000 and certainly didnt enjoy driving it on Motorways. I get the impression its not that sort of car - it's brilliant fun on the right road, but if you spend most of your time on Motorways...
 
if you are used to commuting in MX5 then S2000 is hardly going to be a problem. Crawling around in traffic is generally a bit more bearable in a nice soft top car I reckon. Presume that if you got sick of the softop over the winter you could stick a hard top on? Is servcing costs not going to largely depend on whether you buy something new enough to warrant going to the main dealer or take something older than you self service?

yer, i've spoken with him a couple of times back when he had it and know of his gripes against it.

Other than the S2k i'm looking at the S3, CTR (if i'm feeling a little more sensible), 350z (probably too thirsty for me), LCR & annother MX5 (probably turbo'd)

Edit - will probably be self / local village indy serviced (they have all sorts of nice cars going in, and have always done a great job :))
