I'm looking for advice regarding the details..

(i'm 5''11, medium/slim build)

Suit will be black.

Options:

Inside lining colour? (lots to choose from)
Single Breast 1 button / 2 button / 3 button?
Peaked / Notched collar?
Single / Double / No vents?

Although, to be honest, to get a nice suit, you can't order it off the internet.

If I were you I'd go to T.M. Lewin and try a few one. Their suits are gorgeous.

Balck Single Breast, two button is a classic. One pleat in the trousers is timeless.

Good for weddings and funerals, funk it up for wedding with a snazzy shirt and tie. Funk it down for funerals with a white shirt and black tie.

Whatever you do, don't go double breasted. You will look like an '80's pimp.:D

As mentioned in my first post, the closest thing to a half decent suit shop involves a boat, helicopter and 100+ miles

I see, that's quite far!

At the end of the day though, a nice suit will last you 10 years.

You also want to feel special when wearing your suit, you want it to fit perfectly.

aye, i know i know, but i don't have the time to go to a good suit shop, nor the extra money it would be! I figure i can get someone who's good with clothing on the island to do all my measurements, send away for a suit, then can get someone to check for it's fit and send away for adjustments if necessary

nothing's mentioned on the invite.. i just assumed it would be "regular" wedding dress code? am i right in thinking black suit is regular wedding dress code?

Maybe try having a look at 'A suit that fits' - here.

I'm pretty sure you can select various options that you mention in the OP and see what they look like. Even if you don't buy from there, it might be pretty handy to see what things look like.

Black or other tbh. Weddings are usually just suits, so black/grey/brown plain or pinstripe.

I don't own a black suit. My suit is dark brown with a cream pinstripe. I didn't buy a black one because this colour suits me much better (I be ginger) My dinner jacket is black though, because there's no alternative.

getting your measurements taken and sending them off is a good idea though if going to the mainland is too difficult. How much are suits off this site? Any chance of a link?

I'm sorry to hear that.

Seriously though, thanks for your help - Asuitthatfits.co.uk is one of the sites i was looking at!

God, this stuff is stressing me out, i love my usual laid back island life where there's nothing to worry about other than your clothes being.. well, clean. ish.

ok here's what I suggest (btw I'm assuming you're going for a single breasted coat):

Inside lining colour? >> I would go for something crazy. Paul smith style, but then again if it's for funerals go for a darker colour. a deep red, perhaps.
Single Breast 1 button / 2 button / 3 button? 2. 1 = savile row & you're not wearing a savile row suit so it's naff. 3 = car park attendant, unless you're tall.
Peaked / Notched collar? notched - you're not an italian gangster / you're not wearing a double breasted coat
Single / Double / No vents? > double. single screams M&S suit or "i have no idea what i'm doing" or "summer suit" or "i'm not from the UK". No vents is for italian suits or very VERY casual sport coats.
Pockets: Straight flapped, straight flapless, slanted flapped, slanted flapless? flapped, always. you're not a london underground employee. if you're going for a london look, go for slanted, but not TOO slanted. you don't want to look like you're going for a savile row look but doing a lame job of it.
Cuff : 0 / 1/ 2/ 3 buttons? interesting question. i'd go for 3. 1 is too new-age for a proper suit, and 2 is ok for certain "fashion" label suits, but it's rare. stick with 3. if you go for 0 you'll need reproductive organ surgery too.
Trousers: Cross / Horizontal pockets? cross pockets (i.e. ones that slant down the length of your leg). horizontal pockets are for jeans.
Trouser Single / Double / No pleat? depends how fat / old you are. no pleat doesn't look good on most people and is too restricting + you'll look like an estate agent, even if you're not one. double is if you're a bit podgy and/or an older gentleman or perhaps an american. go for single. comfortable, looks good, timeless.

don't get turn-ups on your trousers - that's a bit 90s. unless the coat is double breasted of course

Single breasted, Dark Purple crushed velvet with a Jade Green lining. Antique silver buttons are a must, but other things such as 'pocket cut' is personal choice.

Top it off with a silver 'knobstick' (preferably black) and a top hat! May want to get a pet Raven to sit on your shoulder too.
